Flowmaster 80 series

I believe the model # is Model: 42583. I bought this one from Cube since he was selling his. You may want to ask him, but I believe it's 2.5" in/out...which would be the model # I have you. The site wouldn't state it would fit the FX, so custom piping will need to be done.

Sounds familiar :P

Does sound less raspy than test pipe madness:

Also, I did a bit of research into it to find out what the stock pipe diameters were going into and out of the stock muffler, anybody have that info anymore? If I remember correctly it was single 2.5" inlet and dual 2.5" outlet. If you go to summitracing.com and input the proper #'s for single inlet and dual outlet... not sure if it's 2.5 / 2.5, but it'll come up with the available Flowmaster mufflers in I believe 40, 60 and 80 series.

I certainly didn't notice any "power loss". Not to say that there wasn't some shift of the power curve, but I agree the effect is very small either way.

Nice clip Pat, it's crazy how difficult it is to really capture the sound. I tried with at least 3 different studio microphones and myriad placement/setup configurations. I never came up with any that I would call truly "accurate" in terms of what it sounds like when you're standing anywhere nearby. It's an odd combination of harmonics that is extremely dynamic in person.

Here's my most recent attempt at a proper recording. The video is pretty self explanatory but for the sake of clarity, the audio is coming from the stereo recorder that you can see me place on the ground behind the FX. Recording the exhaust at two distances is the only way I have been able to capture the tone and the volume range without clipping my recorder and/or adding limits or compression. I am a ridiculous amateur at the video editing game (this clip was made in Soundbooth...) so forgive the lack of professionalism. The only reason there is video at all is to illustrate the positioning of the recorder. On the studio monitors in my basement, this is the most accurate "FX Flowmaster" recording I've heard.

yea that sounds AWESOME man.

let me ask a question w/out starting a whole new thread for it.

what would be the best route to go exhaust wise, but still keeping that authentic infiniti exhaust note? with your set-up it still sounds authentic, just a little louder and more aggressive which i love. Would a full header back exhaust take that sound away, or would it be the same just a lot louder?

Basically i want something thats going to flow the best, but still keep that sound. its just pure sex to my ears.

im still a newb in the infiniti scence so have some patience :)

I don't really know enough about exhaust theory to say which part makes the "Infiniti sound". My guess is that the motor itself is mostly responsible but in your place I'd consult with a pro.

If I'm not mistaken, the Nismo retains the stock sound the best. It will require some modding to make it fit but in the end may be well worth it.
