NEW FX35 Mods???

It depends a lot on the exhaust being used. No flex joints in the exhaust will raise the chances of welds cracking in the high flow cats I've seen.

I run test pipes with no brackets, luckily I haven't run into any issues but my turbo manifolds are cast iron so those are very unlikely to crack vs a welded tubular manifolds or welded tubular headers.

I have the DC Headers and Kakumei y-pipe now one. Are the "test pipes" replacment pipes without dampers and so, just straight pipes...??
I do not know all of those technical terms unfortunatly....:wink:
 
Ray,

Just be warned that you might experience rasp with test pipes. Try getting resonated ones if you definitely want to do them. Also, you'll probably lose some of that stock FX sound with test pipes..

Hey ege...!!

No i will not go for them as i will get in trouble with my yearly emmision test, so i need real cat's.
Asked rookie the same question.....any ideas wich brand will hold up and doesn't crack...?!
 
I can't really suggest any particular brand. I've seen Crawford hiflo cats crack a lot, a lot of the lesser name brands also crack. I believe f1fx has Stillen hiflos on now and hasn't said anything lately to me about them cracking.

I give the final drive mod the best bang for the buck. It cost me 1400 total to get a new pumkin, lsd, and 3.9 gears installed. Its a direct swap from the 350z. Just make sure you swap it from a 350z that already has an lsd. The ONLY thing you would need to change from your stock pumkin is the longer flange that connects to the differential. Although this mod made me lose mpg (from 20 average mpg to 18.1 average mpg (80%highway20%city)), it has sure made my acceleration faster. Even my wife noticed the difference and thats saying alot. I believe Rookie made a thread detailing the install either on this forum or on the other (infinitifx.org).
 
I dont know about high flow cats failing. I purchased mine from Berk Technologies and 18,000 miles later no problems so far and also no check engine light.
On the exhaust if you plan on doing suspension work in the future AND PLAN on STAYING N/A, then I would recogmend the Nismo exhaust due to the fact that GTspec just released some bars that apparently do not fit on a true duel exhaust (stillen) but dont quote me on that.

So when driving so much highway compared to the city you still found it worth while...??
I have to say with the UR pullykit on i already have the felling the engine revs up more and so is the car.
I'm a bit affraid that with this mod it'll all go just a little to fast...or am i wrong... :rolleyes:
 
Nice!!!!!!! The companion flange that mates the driveshaft to the diff is different between the FX and the G/Z.

Once you get used to the shorter final drive you'll get some of your mpg back. That is unless you are heavy on the pedal at every acceleration. The 3.3 on the RWD FX with our tall tires is seriously tall.

Once you get the Vortech going you'll get into boost much faster, a good quick vb and you're gonna have a very quick ride.

Or any other Cat Back single pipe system then...?? As long as it isn't a dual. Hmm i have the SUMMIT kit same as the GT, but made up my mind for say a 80% that it's going to be the HKS, if i do it that is.

I bought Berks as well.. Still thinking if I should put them on or not..

Ray,

you have a under driven UR pulley correct? I just purchased the pulley (not accessory one). And will be installing it later. Other than the faster revs what other things did you notice? (MPG , etc)
BTW I got a smokin deal from ebay ($50)

For one regarding the fuel economy... Im comming from a supercharged lifted f150 that currently gets 7mpg becuase of the 37" tires and crap installed. 18.1 mgp for me is GREAT on this vehicle lol. Regarding the gears,.... i cant believe you just asked that. IT CAN NEVER BE TOO FAST.!!! :laugh: But on a serious note, the gears changed my power band becuase it puts the rev right around 2.7k which is where this car makes power. Get what im saying?

Wow that is cheap...!! No i've got the stock size kit. Ege had bad expriances with the under drive with all sorts of noices and i heard also the thing with the A/C and alternator making more noise with the underdrive so i stayed with the stock.

Hmm millage....i really don't loook as much to that as it is way to much already :neutral:
I think i say around 17.5 last time i checked. It stays around there but can't tell if it was any different with before as i've put a lot of mods shortly after eachother.
Can tell that the pully's gave me the power i needed in the low RPM's as i had the 1/2" plenum and noticed that the FX had some problems with low torque. I did the pully's the same time as the headers so don't know if all is to say about them though.
But the engine rev's op far more guicker and the throttlle response is also much better so you will definitly like that.....:top:
 
The final drive swap is a worthwhile mod if faster acceleration is the goal. Boosted or not its a great mod.

The final drive is essentially a gear multiplier. It's a change that will always be present no matter what gear you're in no matter what rpm you're at. With a centrifugal supercharger the boost is rpm dependent. 6psi is at x000rpm. The faster you get into boost the faster boost will carry you through the rpm band.
