WHAT UP!

Just made a score and had to share with everyone. I've been on the hunt for a while for a Nismo setup for my 35. I'm AWD though so the Y was useless. This discouraged me from getting a new setup. I'd also rather have a midpipe custom made than use the extension. I just happened to check on ebay to see what was around, just like i have been for months, and found someone who was selling just the muffler of his Nismo edition Z, with less than 1K miles, for 250 bucks. Instantly pulled the trigger. Hopefully my research is correct and this muffler is the same as the S-tune.

At any rate i am FIRED up right now, and only people on this forum can appreciate my excitement so i figured i'd post it up!

i also have a couple quick questions. what is the diameter of the input on the nismo muffler? what are my options as far as off the shelf mid pipes that fit without the extension?

dont quote me on this, but i believe the exhaust from the nismo edition Z is indeed the nismo exhaust but only the rear section (muffler) which you bought. i also think the tips are different compared to the s-tune exhaust system, because on the nismo edition Z it looks different (attached picture)

+1.. see this:

Nismo exhaust on a Nismo Z is not the same as Nismo S-tune..

but the nismo edition Z muffler and the s-tune muffler are the same correct? that was what i was able to gather. hopefully a few others can chime in and make me feel better about this. haha. i'm a little nervous now.

this isnt the same as the s tune. If hes selling the whole catback, the y pipe and mid pipes are same as a 06-07's stock y and mid pipes. The only differnece is the inlet on the muffler is a TAD bit bigger than stock and the tipes are way bigger than stock. This isnt considered a performance exhaust, pretty much just looks.

I dont think it's the same exhaust.

what about this though?

I think the Nismo comes with ONLY the muffler. Stock pipe from the cats to the muffler.

and the other guy saying that the inlet is bigger also makes me think it is the same as the s-tune. s-tune is 3" and stock is 2.5" i think.

i also called the nissan dealer before i pulled the trigger, talked to a couple different guys who all said it was the same muffler. take it for what its worth though. we all know how knowledgeable car salesmen are.

So i've been reading on m350z for a little while and this is what i've been able to come up with. the muffler i bought is NOT the same as the s-tune. But it is also NOT the same as stock. The muffler itself is different and does provide a deeper and louder tone. Noticeably different from what the z guys are saying. However it is NOT the s-tune muffler like i was hoping for. The tips on this are also bigger that the s-tune from what i can see. I am a little dissappointed but not all that much. i got a great deal on this setup, and it will provide me with a more aggressive exhaust not which is what i was really looking for. Once i get it in and have a look at the tips, i will make the call on whether or not i think they're too big. If so i'll just have them weld some smaller tips on when they extend them out. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that there are no fitment issues, but from what i've read so far i think i'll be fine. hopefully someone with more experience with this muffler can chime in and let me know.

I don't think anyone has experience with the Nismo edition muffler here, I'd ask the guys at the Z forums.. If it's the same fitment as stock, I'd get HKS mid and you'll go deeper/louder as well..

I believe it has resonator as well but a better one. The stock should be 2.25" from the resonator to the rear muffler, HKS should be 2.5" all over..

just FYI,

Ever since 2 weeks ago since I've installed my Nismo S-tuned Cat-back, I've noticed a gain of 1.5+ miles in MPG .

I drive my FX 99.9% manual pushing about 4-6k RPM on 1st and 2nd alot and down shift to 3rd when driving in FWYs. I Used to get anywhere between 13.5 to 14 MPG I just notice last night that I'm at 16.2. I have not reset my mpg counter for at least a month so the average includes driving with both exhusts.

My wife will be happy to know that my new nismo exahust will pay for itselft in no time.

Im having similar results, but the only difference is that I just installed a 5/16 plenum spacer. Along with the rest of my mods (see signature)
When my wife drives , she can average 19.7. When i drive I can average 18 mpg.

so is it possbile to just get the nismo muffler, rather than the whole set up? i know it wont directly bolt up, but all you need to do is extend the tips, and everything else fits? or is it a little more complicated? i'd love to be able to just get the muffler.
