How do you clean under your hood?

does running aot of highway makes the engine bay dirtier? My dad's benz has clean engine bay after 4 years yet my fx has dirty engine bay in not even 4 months!!!!

the fx35 09 engine is pretty cover by itself, is there anything else i need to cover up before i give it a good clean? Any OTC engine bay cleaner i can buy from crappy tire?

I do have a pressure washer but i'm too chicken to use it, what's some hand tools than can allow me to get into the nooks and crannies?

whats wrong with that?
Because it was noticeably swirly afterwards.

I've heard of people having no issues using orbital buffers over and over again, but it's way more common for people to regret using it because of swirl marks. That's what I ended up with, swirl marks.

As for the engine bay, I'm still not a fan of hosing everything down because you can't control what goes where... that's all really.

i've been reading a lot about detailing and orbital polishing and buffing and i'm pretty sure that as long as the paint and the pads you are using are clean, then you wouldn't see any swirl marks at all. also, using the correct pad is important. they make different textures for different things, and if you use a pad meant for compounding to apply wax then you are going to get swirl marks. you need to use a soft pad meant for applying wax.

I use simple green and have used both power washer and hose. I honestly don't cover anything but try to avoid spraying the intake. After cleaning, I just run the engine for a bit at idle, not sure if it is the right way but I never had any problems, I heard you can also use a leaf blower.
