MREV2 Gains in Non Rev Up engine.

Hi. I've had a few questions and PMs about my MREV2 setup. I've also had a number of questions about MREV2 gains in a non rev up engine. In order to help out I posted a series of graphs and dynos Tony C. at Motordyne sent me at:

http://www.infinitifx.org/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=19236

I'll also post them here once I figure out the image posting on this site.

I'd also recommend anyone who's interested have a look at:

which is an exxcellent discussion on the topic from my350z.com

Hope this is helpful.

Nice post Rob, i was particularly interested in the MREV2 a little while ago. How do you think your results would have changed if you had stayed with the 1/2" spacer rather than switching to the 5/16" spacer? from your personal opinion, do you think the $350 (after lower collector rebate) was well worth the added TQ bump?

In all honesty it's very hard for me to say. It got very warm and humid here right after I installed so I haven't been able to do any timed 0 to 60 runs. She seems quick but my butt dyno's as good (or bad) as anybody else's. I'm also running very lean right now so I know there's untapped potential.

To try to get some level of objectivity into matters I went back and hunted down those graphs. The only other thing I can point to would be the dynos we posted up in the meets section several weeks back. I was only a couple of clicks on horsepower off of a bone stock FX45. Given no engine management or tune I'm pretty happy with it. It was a nice flat TQ curve and as far as I can see the only real unusual thing I'm doing down low in the RPM band is the MREV2.

Given I added the 5/16 and MREV2 and took out a 1/2 space at the same time I noticed no drop off in HP.

Worth $350 well here's how I see it.

1. Do the spacer first. To be certain. Better $/gain.
2. If you're looking for a bolt on that will improve low band TQ what else is there?
3. There will always be a resale market for it with the 350z and G35 guys so at the end of the day I'm really just fronting the $$$ less what? $100 for the resale of it.
4. If I ever get that 350z roadster I've been thinking of it'll swap right over.

So yeah. I think I'd put out $350 for it. But that's just me. Now if I could only get my engine management worked out.

Oh, one more thing. I took out a 1/2" inch and installed the 5/16" without the MREV2. I clocked some nice 0 to 60 runs. Maybe she was a tad more sluggish in the high RPM band. It's hard to say. She's certainly not sluggish up there now with the MREV installed.

Overall it's hard to say. Once it cools down this fall I'll take some measurements and we'll see what they say.

Although one thing is clear: No more bold on mods for me until I get this engine management worked out.

I have one the garage right now waiting to be installed and Im gonna retune afterwards with TS.....but the weathers gonna be crazy hot now that summers here. So I might just wait til the winter months to install it.

Just a thought here. When I did the MREV2 I also installed the Iso Thermal gasket and copper throttle body insulator. I suspect one of the reasons she feels quick right now given the heat is she's running cooler due to the Iso Thermal mods.

Yepp it's hot but if you're going to do the Iso Thermal stuff it'll help with that.

Thanks Rob, the added lower end TQ is essential, especially since im looking to go TD with my exhaust (Bassani Xhaust) this will help if i lose a bit of low end power. i think i will be running quite lean afterwards (Test pipes, MREV, Exhaust) i will definitely need a tune or reflash which will unlock some more valuable power.

Yes you *will* be lean. I was running at about 14.4 and didn't start to dump fuel until 5000 RPM. That's why I was hoping to find an '05 Non Tech to spend a day with TechnoSquare.

Since that doesn't look like it's going to happen guess I'll need to look more seriously at the UTEC.

Wow, I have some great articles stored up, but can't post them, because I can't attach a URL.

I'll come back and answer this question in FULL when I have 15 posts.

I have an 05 non tech. :6wink:

I also read that it was better to use the 5/16 spacer then the 1/2 spacer with the MREV2. But can anybody confirm this, as otherwise i also need to change the spacer if i want to do this...??

It is not necessary to change. I had the opportunity to pick since I already had a 1/2 and when I picked up my MREV2 had the opportunity to acquire a 5/16. I asked Tony at Motordyne which he'd recommend and he said 5/16 with the package.

They're both still good. The 5/16th makes a little more power sooner. The 1/2 will make more peak horsepower. Overall the 5/16 makes more total power which -arguably- is what matters. Wish I could figure out the images on this site I'd post the dynos and it would be easier to explain. I'll have a little time to concentrate on it after Monday (fiscal year end. crunched at work right now.)

Ohhh and Psiclne...are you going to keep your 1/2" with the MREV2...?? Eager on finding out what your finding are then as well.
How do you keep your patience....having a new tuningmod in your garage and don't put it in....how do you do that

I have the 1/2 plenum from wolf racing. Can i buy/fit the iso thermal mods as well on that or do it need to be of the same brand.
And were to buy best...??
