My friend has a lexus es300, 98 i think. He just bought new rims from a website, that are supposed to be fully compatable with his car. One of his coworkers has a car with rims and he told him he needs to get some sort of washer(maybe he means spacer?) to put on before the rim. I think maybe he had to do something like that to his car because his rims werent compatable. I told my friend i am not sure but think if the rims are compatable with the car he should just be able to put the rims on and lugnuts and thats it. Can anyone inform me?? Ive never heard of needing a washer (from what he discribed it sounds like hes talking spacer, whenever anyone puts on aftermarket rims. Thanks

many cars use hub centric wheel mounting, as oposed to lug centric. this means the center of the hub is what centers the wheel. many aftermarket wheels use a bigger opening at this hub for a more universal fit, you may need hub centric rings...

Thanks for the info guys. We put them on last night and seemed to fit correctly without the rings.

Normally aftermarket rims will fit correctly without the hub-rings. What the hub rings do is fill in the extra space between the hub and wheel... this to make sure you are getting the rim as centered as possible when tightening the lugs. Most aftermarket wheels are lug-centric, this also help keep the rim centered.
