Which size pulley

What size pulley, Underdriven or Stock Size

do you guys want? The stock size one, or the underdriven one? I personally like the underdriven one only because the advantage of gaining more power is there.

The realistic gains on an FX is unknown to me on the underdriven ones. Though it is safe to assume that it is in the 5-7 hp range at the tires. Stock size ones will yield a faster rev, but no hp gains on it.

I would be setting a group buy pricing at 110 shipped for the underdriven with 25 buyers, and 130 shipped for the stock size one same amount of buyers.

Lets vote, and who would be interested? understand that if we do go forward, it would be a pre production group buy as well. Basically a custom order for this forum! :biggrin::biggrin:
 
Sorry, I'm not actually interested in buying one right now. I saw the poll thing and wanted to give my opinion on what I would buy. I'll be more clear next time. Looks like a nice deal though. :smile:

Maybe if this is for a Group buy, it should be in that section.
 
I think he's just getting a feel for which ones you guys want at this point then he will start an official GB
 
I think I need to read more on this mod. My friend with TT G35 keeps telling me pulleys are not for me and that I will regret this mod... i was like ????

Any reason why they said that? This one is made pretty well, has the sleeve built on. I've had mine since December and I have no issues.

He didn't say... That's why I need to do more reading.

When I had my Acura, people always warned me about the long term effect of using pulleys... Never understood why there was such a concern....

Will,

Any idea what pulleys are taboos in general?
 
guys - the concerns about using pulleys are somewhat mis guided and rumors here and there that really don't hold much weight

lets address them here:

a) some people say they experience oil leaks from changing out the pulley.

this would be true if the pulley used doesn't have a sleeve on it to prevent wear against the crank seal. another concern is when installing the component. some people install it properly and don't check to make sure the seal is clean (dirt is very bad in the seal, it will chew apart the seal) - you can wash out any debris by using a couple of shots of wd-40. also another concern with oil leak is that some cheap chinese counterfeits don't make the pulley the right size and it allows oil to leak past the seal. this is not a concern with our component.

b) some people say that the pulley is a balancer to engine.

the vq series engines are internally balanced. using a lightweight crank pulley doesn't cause any harm to the internal engine components on this engine.

c) some people say it creates premature wear long term.

this hold's true for older american muslce cars. it also holds true for any car that uses the crank pulley as a harmonic balancer, the vq series engines do not use the cp as a balancer

Any particular reason why people would choose the stock size over the underdrive pulley when there's no gain in hp just faster revs? :confused:
 
If you are considering getting a supercharger like vortech, i think you should avoid an underdriven pulley and stick to a stock size if anything (just FYI for anyone wondering)
