HKS GT Supercharger Kit

I called GTM today to inquire about valve body & torque converter upgrades. I spoke to Sam, and he was very informative. He did a quick estimate and said he can get it done for about $2300 + tax. Does that seem like a reasonable price?

I told him the reason for tranny upgrade is because I plan on a Stillen s/c kit. I wanted the Stillen beause of the carb certification. This is an issue for us who live in California, unless you know people (cough...PM me if you do). Sam mentioned about the newly released HKS GT s/c kit. He said the kit is conservative right out of the box due to carb certification (in progress). With smaller pulley, and tuning he said 400whp is doable.

I did some reading on my350z.com, however the kit is pretty new. There aren't much info on it. Anyone have experience with HKG F.I. kits? I know HKS is a well known company, however word of mouth is more convincing. Any thoughts and input would be great.

I remember reading at the org that the kit produced crap hp and cost a fortune.. HKS is a nice company but they always overprice their products..

There is someone here on the board that has this kit. May want to talk to him about it.

I've read a LOT about the HKS charger on my350z.com, and it has all been pretty much summed up by Ege here.

GTM has always been pricey, but if you spend your $2300 there, you know you got exactly what you paid for and you can have no worries about quality of work.

I wouldn't listen to them about the HKS though, Stillen is tried and true, and produces just as much power as the HKS. 400 whp??? On an AWD 5AT FX35? Yeah... okay... they're talkin out of their ass on that one.

For one thing, your motor isn't very reliable at 400whp, and for another, 400whp on an awd FX35 is like 500rwhp on a 6MT 350Z (when you look at crank power), something I have yet to see from a supercharged 350Z (except when shops are doin their good ol' trying to blow a motor thing and wasting a perfectly good block, which I've seen done on my350z.com twice, both with boost + nitrous).

one here: YouTube - Turbo 350Z Blows up on dyno
it's like a horror movie

as Cube said, AWD loses a lot of power.. It actually makes about only 188 hp at the wheels in a stock AWD dyno.. Getting to 400 at the wheels is about 212 more.. You need a jet engine for that

edit: wow! this thing posted the video right there instead of the link... nice!

According to these threads it was released not long ago:

http://www.my350z.com/forum/showthread.php?t=336168&highlight=hks (2nd page of this thread people start talking about how this kit can be tuned for additional hp gains)

I remember reading from my350z.com there was another kit prior to this one (not sure though) and that kit sucked. As GTM's defense I never told Sam my car is AWD. I think GTM might have meant 400whp from a VQ35 (G's & Z's), not necessarily out of an AWD FX35. I never realized how much hp the AWD sucks up.

Sam went on saying that the most he has ever squeezed out of a Stillen kit was about 320hp to 340hp. He assured me that he is able to get more out of the HKS kit. I agree that Stillen is tried and true, but it's tempting if I am able to get more hp out of the HKS kit. Of course at what price though. I'll definitely talk a bit more with Sam and let him know I do have an AWD. See what kind of hp & torque he is able to get me.

Congrats on a S/C!

One question, R U a 35 or 45? It doesnt say in your sig. I'm guessing 35 but...:wub::wink:

2300 for the VB and TC installed is not a bad price, adding in that you're doing it all in the same place is a plus so no finger pointing happens with parts and installation is a huge plus.

Low end torque on a heavy vehicle is a good thing. I would love to see a Stillen running some kind of meth injection to combat heat, not necessarily to make power but to keep it efficient. The positive displacement superchargers have a much more predictable powerband than the other forms of boost.

Hi Keemo, I'm a 35. Just added that to my sig. I haven't got the s/c kit yet, still trying to decide which one to go with. Also, I have to save up for it. Pretty sure I'll do the valve body & torque converter first. This way by the time I do get the s/c kit, the tranny will be in good condition.

I do have a meth kit I am trying to sell.... I was going to put it on my wrx but backed off, maybe I should put it on the fx ... I would need tuning though if I run meth, how could I tune for it with the stillen box? (unless I just use 100% water)

I had 200hp/200tq on an AWD Mustang Dyno... which are known for having the lowest numbers out there...

I did 215 with awd with just a +2, all else bone stock on a dyno dynamics 4w dyno, through the stock aircleaner... opened the intake & she only picked up 5 hp... & went rich... I woulda expected it to go lean if anything but the tuner said that's normal... leaning it out at that point would bring power up more than just the 5hp gain, but with no tune just 5 hp difference

I just dropped off my car this past weekend at GTM for valve body, torque converter, and ECU reflash w/ tuning. They just finished tuning the HKG GT supercharger kit on a 350z. The kit looks really nice, and it's quiet. It is a centrifigual supercharger. The numbers are posted on my350z.com. It looks promising at 396whp & 350 torque with 10psi....on an automatic car. When the time comes, I'm sure I'll be going this route instead of Stillen.

nice.. so this s/c is not the one they advertised on their page. They claimed a stupid 50 hp over stock  Worth thinking about if it's not overpriced say around $7000...

EgeFx: it actually is the same s/c on their page. Out of the box this kit produces the 50hp HKS claims. GTM has the capability to customize this kit. They will come out with different stages for it. I'm sure this is an exclusive for GTM, since they are the one that customizes it.

well it looks like they're doing $8000 installed on the FX for the HKS kit. I don't know if that price includes the custom job we're talking about here but even if it does, I'd rather get JWT twins installed on my FX for that price. Don't get me wrong, HKS GT kit is probably a very nice kit but it looks like its max is about 400. JWT gives up 400 out of the box and have potential for more. Not that I personally need it but it's there..

i was going to get the JWT kit thru vinnytenracing but i couldnt pay it all at once so we deceded it was a nono :(

i was sooo closeeeee
