Kick Zaino to the Curb?

Alright I have been planning for a while on doing a good detail session on my car, and would probably have ended up wandering around autozone for product. After reading this thread, and see how passionate some people are about this Zaino stuff i decided to go with it. Plus it seems pretty straight forward to apply once you figure out the system. i like that it doesn't require a machine or heavy buffing. so this is my plan, wanted to run it by some people with experience before i pull the trigger. This my plan:

Clean with Z-7
Z-18 to smooth surface
Z-PC to remedy some minor scratches
Z-AIO as a foundation
Z-S Pro on my Silver Paint
Z-6 as recommended on the applicator for the polish

and some Z-16 tire gloss. sounds to be pretty good, doesn't splash on fenders, or hold dirt, and supposedly last 3 weeks at a time.

What do you think? suggestions, comments, advice?

That's the full boat for sure.
I'm not familiar with the newer stuff yet, like the AIO item
I'm old school with Z-PC, Z1 Lock, Z-5, & Z-2.
All this talk made me go outside just now & throw a coat of Z-5 on the paint, & a coat on my wheels. Try & take some pics later.

Advice? . . the best I can offer, is on application. Z-PC, use an orbital buffer.
Z-5 & Z-2, hand applicator ONLY! the key is getting it on right with real thin coats, & it will come with experience. A bottle will take you a lonnnnnng ways. As you put on Z-5, or Z-2, Spray your pad with a QD, or Z-6 to get it damp, then put a dribble like you would syrup on a pancake on the damp terry applicator pad . . . work each panel individually as you go along, & spray the surface of the car in a few areas with the QD to keep things wet. Then Dab the pad in the sprayed areas some 2 feet apart, so you have the sealant to work with as you get to those areas. Then rub it on really leaving a really thin layer (you wont really see it on the car until it dries) As you move from that initial area, hit the spots that you dabbed the sealant on, & rub in with the QD that is already sprayed on. the key to applying, is to keep things moist, cuz it dries quick. Continue with the rest of the car. Make sure you wait till it dries (it will haze). You should be able to just wipe it off with the light touch of your finger. Multiple coats are great, but you should wait 24 hours between application for good cure times. Make it an all week project.
Do it in the shade, & in warm temp.

You may try ZFX, but over time, 6 months, the catalyst will dry in the bottle, & then it's unusable. That is why I've always bought Z-1 lock base coat (it's unavail, & not in production). It was an extra step, but I always had it when needed.

You have your work cut out for you! But the results will amaze you.

what does the Z-5 do? anything different than the Z-2? Do i need both or is one better than the other? the only difference i could see is that Z-5 was better on darker vehicles

They say Z-5 is a polish, & will fill small swirls. I do a couple coats Z-5, Then the rest Z-2. Cant really say if you'd benefit, but it can hurt.

Might as well get a Z-8 Grand Finale and Z-10 Leather in a bottle smells good, its like the smell of a cologne and brand new car. I swear ...:top:

Yes, Z-10 is awesome. deff add that. Z-8, I think is a waste of money. I cannot see the diff between that & 6, & one goes through that stuff quick. I would just stick with the 6 & get two of them.

I have had my ZFX for over two years now and it is still in liquid form. Just make sure the caps are screwed on tight and it will not dry out.

As for the difference between Z6 and Z8, Z6 is a quick detailer to remove light dust on a regular basis. Z8 is a spray sealant to help replenish and extend the life of Z2, Z5, and CS.

I took these shots today after a single coat of Z-2.
My first application was a year ago. Clay, Z-PC with an orbital buffer, 2 coats Z-5, 4 coats Z-2. After that initial slavery, I then throw a coat of Z-2 on once every 2 months after that. I have yet needed to start from scratch yet as it's still very slick. I wash the car once a month, maybe that (probably why the sealant last so long), or after a rain, & I California Car dust it once a day. It's really easy maintenance, & my car always looks fresh out of the wash.
& this is an outdoor car, always.
Guess Zaino is pretty durable

How long do you guys spend on a full detailing session with all the Zaino stuff ? I use Ice from Turtle Wax because I don't want to spend my one day off from work making the FX all shiny...and not have time for anything else.

Nice job with the Zaino Dave, looks awesome.:top:

Zaino rocks. I have used it for about three years. The big thing about it , is it lasts so long, you do not have to apply it as often. I am a Zaino-holic:biggrin:

I agree - When I first got the FX I did the whole Zaino thing but now its just not worth it for me to spend one of my off days to do the 10 steps.

thx, G-man!

Initial detail takes maybe 3-4 hours. Not too long, & not all day, besides, it's a good workout.
That's a wash, clay, wash again, dry, Z-PC with a buffer, Coat of Z-5.
Then each coat of Z-2 after that takes 20 min, & I would do it every day thereafter. It's really not that bad. Take a week to do the full boat, with a 7 layer coating. Cal Duster takes 2 minutes a day, & QD takes 5 min a week.

I havnt tried the newer products like AIO, or that super clear, so I cannot comment.

Ok the info given by GJBenn85 and looking at that shine on Dave's FX motivated me to get up this morning and do the whole Zaino thing. Starting with clay to final Z-CS. I'll spray some Z-8 tomorrow morning. I do take all day, well all weekend but thats only because I do a little at a time and let the wax cure for 1 to 2 hours after each app. As Dave said, you can do a quick wash n dry, Z6, Z-2, Z6 in 3 to 4 hours after the first time application.

All this talk about detailing is making want to clean up the ride. Here is my question to anyone that can anwser. What do you use or thinks best on a dark colored car?

I've used mothers, Maguires, Ice, etc... all good but I'd like to know what works extremely well on darker vehicles.

I don't know if this helps , but Turtle Wax has a color specific wax.

It only comes in black, red or blue. I tried the blue one on my fathers' old blue MB with fading color, and it worked like magic. The only down side is that it doesn't last very long, however, it might work better on a newer car.
