Stillen Intake - Help me please?

:eek:Ok guys, so I finally received my intake yesterday and installed it today.

Overall this was my first time ever doing an install like this. I was started late so it got dark on me. I will do a check tomorrow during the day light and take some pics.

I took it for a test drive and I am happy. Sounds really good. Feels like it has a little more power.

Will post pics this weekend.

how do I do that? what happens if I dont?

I knew you were going to ask, so I was just at ORG trying to do a search with my Treo, but since they've gone with the new format, it's nearly impossible to browse with my phone... I'll do it when I get home... or just go over there yourself and search "ECU, how to" and a bunch of stuff will come up, but search here first... I forgot, we may even have something here...

Full proof way would be to unplug the neg battery for the night or a few hours and then reconnect. That will reset you ecu. Let us know what you think about the intake. And write a little review of it in the review section if you can.

Yes we do... Ecu reset, Acc. pedeal release pos., Throttle closed pos., Idle air volume learn - InfinitiScene.com

or an easier way would be as doc said.

Wow guys, thank you all for all the info. Think I'm going to go and unplug my battery right now to have it ready by tomorrow morning.

If I don't reset it, what happens?

So then disconnect the negative battery cable over night and I'll be fine? Will this make my FX run better?

LOL Ken don't mess with him..its a bit late.

Carlos, resetting the ecu will reset all parameters to default, i.e., factory settings right off the assembly line. It won't hurt the FX but you will notice decreased gas mileage for a bit and increased throttle response. The ecu is learning your driving habits all over again and trying to find the optimal settings for your driving style and any new modification to the car.

I posted the way to reset using the PEDAL method somewhere here before...i would use that way. if you dont get it right the first time just keep trying till you get it. you can keep all your settings it just resets the ECU...i try to do it atleast twice a month because from city and rush hour traffic the ECU adjusts to it and can reduce throttle response and make it feel like you have less power.

That's why I like this way. You get to keep all your presets for radio etc.
It's actually quite easy if you have a watch with you.

Like Brown said, I do mine every three weeks or so to keep the pep in her.

Yes and yes.

I had two intake and never reset my ECU, simply being lazy. I finally reset as I had the entire console removed, so I had to remove my negative battery cable for actually 2-3 days.

Only impact is you have to reset your radio etc...

Does it make your FX run better? I say yes, the ECU "re-learns" how you drive etc... kind of like zeroing your scale again. I had a slight bog when gunning it because I'm sure the ECU was going wtf is all this air coming from or something as the intake increased flow. Now, I can clearly feel the difference in how the engine reacts after the ECU reset.

Either way, doesn't hurt to reset! That other method is too complex for me=) I just unplug negative when I go to sleep and re-connect it in the morning.

Thanks guys for all the info. I'm just going to go the Chedman way. lol. It's really hard to access the negative battery cable. Really tight spot. I tried to do it last night. I'll try to do it today with day light. Do I have to do it over night or is 5 min. fine?

On the instructions from Motordyne after installing a spacer, it says you can un hook the neg, then pump the brakes a few times to drain the power.
Try it, and if it doesnt work, try longer.

Maybe if the radio needs to be set, it was long enough? I'm pretty sure I disconnected the negative before for only like 5-10 minutes and the radio stations were still good - unless my memory escapes me.
