Is Sport Pkg worth it?

So I'm currently in the market for a used 06 FX35. In my searching, I'm finding it incredibly difficult to find a Blue FX with the Sport Package.

From my understanding, the sport package includes the sport-tuned suspension, 20" wheels, etched-aluminum interior accents, black-chromed taillights...

Am I missing anything else?

Since I'd likely get a different set of wheels at some point and the tails are easy to get around $300, and I'm completely happy w/ the interior as-is, how much better is the sport-tuned suspension? Is it even noticeable for daily commuting?

Thanks

Welcome.

I can't answer your question since my FX doesn't have a sport package, but I've read plenty about people arguing from both sides of the fence. Hopefully someone with more knowledge about the topic will chime in.

Welcome to the scene!

Your choice should depend on what type of ride you are after. Do you want a stiff sporty ride or a comfy bouncy suv ride? But even with the non-sport the ride will still be stiffer then your normal luxury suv.

If you are going to get aftermarket wheels and lowering springs (H&R or Eibach) then i will say save your money on the sports package and put it towards your wheel + springs fund.

Thanks for the responses.

I've read a few customer reviews on Edmunds yesterday and many people didn't appreciate the stiff suspension too much.

Personally, I'm coming from a G35 coupe as my daily driver so I'm not too concerned if I happen to feel a few bumps in the road

I'm not planning on getting springs... I need the clearance. I wince every time I've heard my G bottom out pulling into some of the parking lots around here. It's going to be nice to not have to enter/exit at an angle all the time.

BTW, this is a nice site you guys have here. I wandered in from g35driver.com

im a bad driver... constantly driving off curbs... and with my h/r springs, i have yet to scrape anything.
food for thought

+1 Even with aftermarket springs it will be hard for the FX to bottom out.

Totally diff ride & height from your G. I suggest you drive both. Without the spring change, The Non Sport is bouncy as hell with those 18's & 60 series tires on expansion joints on the highway. Not inspiring in the turns either. It's very floaty in comparison. I lived with a non sport for a month before I traded it back into a sport. If you change the wheels, it's essentially the same ride.

I am on h&r's AND I cut an extra half a coil off the front coils, shaved the rear mounts, I still never could bottom out & I drive it hard, today running through 7" of snow, no issues, it's like a banshee, only better cause it's 4wd:tongue:

the fx is way too high in stock form, unless your off roading or rock climbing it is just tooooo high. H&R's are made in germany & are made to put the fx at what I think should have been the stock ride height, non lowered is just plain jacked up. the fx on H&Rs is a GREAT ride & there are really NO drawbacks... it's nothing like one of those slammed rice burners or anything like that, it is every bit as functional & comfortable as stock, with the added benefit of better handling lower center of gravity & better looks... with them cut it starts to get a bit on the stiff side because the spring rate is raised a bit, but it is still a very decent ride on 20's at least...

of course this is all just my opinion,in my opinion every fx NEEDS to be lowered:tongue:

as far as sport or non, I would consider the other extras the sport gives, with the nicer aluminum inside, the darker trim & lights & clear tails & silver rack on some, stuff like that, the suspension & wheels would not be the main reason to pick a sport or non to me if your going to do springs & wheels anyway...

My 05 is a sport model -
I got it cuz of the 20's, lights, grill, and the silver rails. I personally dont like the etched interior, looks cheesy & dents really easily.

As you can hear...everyone like the lowered ride and look. Good luck.

Heh, I wouldn't expect any less from an car/truck-enthusiast forum

I test drove a non-sport last weekend and was impressed. Although 10-15 minutes of a test drive is nothing like owning the car for at least a month.

As I mentioned, my problem is finding a used Blue (or any color for that matter) FX35 with the sport package. They seem to be non-existent in my area. Granted, most of my searching has consisted of autotrader and cars.com.

It will probably be at least a month anyway before I can even attempt to buy anything seeing that my G is covered in ice and snow right now. I'm going to need to sell that first and foremost. (poor G :frown:)

Thanks again guys for the comments

Totally agree - H&R's are awesome - softer than OEM (on smooth roads) and handling and looks are great. Unless you intend to offroad which we our cars aren't made to do anyways.

sorry couldn't help myself - AWD, not 4wd:rofl: no locking t case. I think the QX56 has 4wd. I know my QX4 had 4wd, and it was an awesome system as it had an auto mode - so almost like AWD but with the low/high gears and locking diff. But who am i kidding - only thing it sees is the suburban jungle and me going through piles of snow.

H&R's are softer the OEM springs? i thought they were stiffer. damn, i guess i bought the wrong springs.....

Hey brown_fv,

That might have been misleading. H&R's are smoother on good roads. But When you hit a bump, you'll feel it as they're progressive. Once you hit a threshold, they're very stiff and hard which make them excellent on turns.

Hope that helps.

H&R's are way more comfortable than eibachs from everything I've seen. I really do think they are an improvement over stock 03 sport suspension, maybe they are about as good as the 05 up stocks in ride quality... most times lowered means "lowered"... on the fx lowered means "un-jacked up". none of the normal compromises that come to mind when you start talking about a lowered car.

I think the lights and silver rails makes a big difference in the way the car looks with the Sports package. The 20' wheel was an after thought for me. Coming from a 350Z the suspension of the sports package was 10 times easier on my kidneys than the Z
