Custom Intake - Weapon R

I like where this is going....

Question.. what is the difference in diameter of the LMS tube vs Chhed's 3" ...

Is the LMS tube bigger in diameter? Hence the experience that the Doc had with his set up, where the CAI was making is 45 run too lean?

Any input Doc of Ched?

Stock is 3.5". I'm pretty sure LMS is 3.5". 3.00" was used as it's readily available with the hose, MAF adapter and filter. I wanted the secret weapon intake cone filter which is 8" tall, and that comes in 3.00".

Yes Ed is right. LMS is 3.5in in diameter. To clarify, the lean condition I experienced was due to installing the LMS intake AFTER my TS reflash. If I would have done the reflash after the intake this would have been fine. I think people are misconstruing my original post on exactly what conditions resulted in my leaning out of the A/F ratio. I don't feel that an after market intake without the TS reflash will lead to an A/F imbalance. But this may change depending on the model year of the FX as the O2 sensor band was narrowed on the '05 and above.

Final product.

They went ahead and did a custom 3.5" throughout. 3.5" MAF adapter and 3.5" tubing. Also all stock vacuum ports (two in total). Couldn't use the longer filter as it wouldn't fit. Heat shield is an extra. I will post more details this weekend or next week:

Just read the thread on the org. Looks really good Ed! I think I will get one just to take to TS and see if there will be any problems with lean conditions and maybe get tuned for it at the same time. Perhaps we can do a dyno test too.

Ed, if you have access to a dyno maybe you can get one done.

Btw, did they use the stock MAF port/tube? How is this going to work...are they goinf to supply a new MAF tube or will we have to use our existing oem tube?

I would do all that you mention, but running out of funds allocated for "mods." I do have access to a AWD dyno but it's a pricey ordeal (at least for me).

Pierce, that's great that you may possibly buy one just to get tested. That's taking one for the team. Due to cost, I really have no intention to test it besides using it and giving personal feedback.

I believe when you say stock MAF port, you mean that black tube where the MAF sensor goes in? If that is the case, yes. I had it made that way so it wouldn't matter what year FX you were and it would work either way (at least 2003-2005 FX45's, 2006+ FX45's have only the LMS option).

Sorry Ed, but I must have been editing while you were typing.

Ah, so in short yes.

Also, the OEM MAF Tube has a screen filter on it. I figure it's best to leave that to protect that expensive sensor. Probably less chance of an issue using the stock as well?

No, this intake will only work on the '03-'05 FX45's. The '06+ intake was redesigned and is much shorter and is located towards the front of the engine. I think they also there are small changes on the '07 and 08 also.

damn that sucks..is it because the engine bay was "redesigned" on the 06+ 45s?

Yes, if you see pictures, the new engine bay shows the air intake coming from close to the front and not the rear like the 03-05.

03-05 had issues because the MAF sensor was different sizes (square vs. rectangle). But the location of the air intake was exactly the same. That's why this will work for any 03-05 FX45 where LMS had to create two to take into account the different MAF sensor size.

Looks like someone has to find someone with a 06 FX45 to get measured at Weapon*R!

LMS does have a prototype intake for the '06 45 but nothing above that model year. And from what I have read, the 06 intake will not properly fit on the '07's.

Final product is now ready. Another member at the org was nice enough to post video's and pictures.

Due to demand, it will not go into production. Therefore each intake will be individually made by Chris at Weapon*R. Final specs are a 3.5" elbow with factory vacuum hose connections, 3.5" custom MAF adapter plate, 4" Secret Weapon Cone Filter. Note that Weapon*R does not carry a 3.5" filter, so a 4" filter with a coupler reducer was used. Feel free to purchase your own 3.5" filter, I went with the 4" Secret Weapon Cone filter though. Pricing is said to be $275-$300, please contact Chris for exact pricing (I think the difference is including or excluding cone filter. Or it could be different options for the filter as they have different kinds, I don't know for sure):

I was hoping this would go into production sending the price down to the $200's. This was not the case and this merely gives other FX45's 2003-2005 an option to buy a custom intake if they choose to. By having this made, Chris at Weapon*R has all the measurements and can reproduce. This at least expands the intake list from LMS to Weapon*R.

I'm expecting criticisms to come for the pricing, but note that I tried. I have no affiliation with Weapon*R and am not making a penny off this.

These are all from OvertheTop. Thanks to him and Wermart this finally happened, whether or not it was the outcome people expected:

Like I posted on the org, looks good but as you stated the price is on the higher side. With that who knows how many will sell. $225-250 would have bee a competitive price. Could we possibly get a GB price at 225.00? I guess 3 have already been sold so how about 7 more for a total of 10?
