Chedman13's 2003 FX45

You are correct, metal panel off and dynamat on outer door skin.

Then put panel back on, you cannot see dynamat.

I close my door and it goes "thud" now.

Absolutely, I wanted the same mapping that Ed had laid out. Damien, let me know how it goes with having Aaron with transfer/convert/modify Ed's maps for out 35.

Check out this DIY on Dynamat the doors; ///8504

Ed, did you dynamat onto the the outer skin of the door or like how Jumbo did it on the inner metal panel. From sound of thing, I sense you took the inner metal panel off and apply the dynmat on the outer door skin, right?

Damnit Tim, speak English!

5) I also realized I have the Bose subwoofer's wired in parallel and not in series... whoops, even though you warned me about this. Not sure if that will do it too.

...

Heh, you're funny. When I started writing long boring technical explanations for engineering presentations I used to read them back and chuckle for the same reason. Anymore it's sort of second nature for technical topics. I promise I'm not nearly as nerdy as some of my posts would have you believe. :tongue (2): If it makes you feel any better it takes me a long time to write them that way.

5) Your amp is switching itself off due to the combined impedance of those Bose woofers, 100%. They are rated at 1ohm each, which is 0.5ohms in parallel. At 0.5ohms your amp is delivering approximately 1200 watts (300w @ 2ohms = 600w @ 1ohm = 1200w @ 0.5ohms) to a set of woofers that are designed to be powered by 100w. The watt/impedance relationship isn't exactly linear like in my example but you get the idea. Your amp is stable to a minimum of 2ohms, which means if it wasn't switching itself off automatically it would be overheating and probably would have already "blown up". Fixing that wiring will help a lot with the Bose woofers' output as they will be able to get much closer to their limits without exceeding those of your amp.

Ed, not sure where exactly would be another alternate location for the sub that you mentioned. You mean mounted on the rear pilar between the rear quarter glass and the hatch openning?

Lance got me thinking of putting a 6" sub on each of the rear door. Not sure if having it right next to the rear seat, about 1/2" gap between the seat and the door panel as it is now have any negative effect on the output? Here are a couple of pics of the rear door and possible location of a 6" sub.

Yeah, you can actually probably fit the bose subwoofers in the rear pillar ones, they are very small, but the surrounding is metal so might have to do some surgery.

I have a feeling you won't miss the rear speakers at ALL, only your rear seat passengers will...

You could put the subs where the rear speakers are, some nice shallow mount ones.

The only thing I miss in this sound system I have is at minimum a 10" subwoofer. I won't sacrifice cargo space, cargo organizer or spare tire. Even the magic box or whatever takes up valuable space for me.

I haven't checked into it at all but I've been wondering lately about fitting a shallow sub and fiberglass enclosure into the rear seat backs...

Liking the rear door bass concept. Has to be a solid "separates" speaker set up for the rear that can push out more low end.

And anyone not seeing the other threads, contact Aaron directly at Unichip.us for the best service, pricing, etc... on UniChip's for our FX's.

Auto anything is their major distributor. If you call Aaron, you can get around 10% off.

5 way switch is $75.
USB cable is $30.

But anyone who knows me knows I never pay retail:wink (2):

Going to the shop AGAIN for this install, Car Link, hi-output alternator, ground the Sound Stream, maybe put new fabric on the speakers and to put my shroud intake back on because SLAMMING45 keeps yelling at me (just kidding).

Resisting GTSPEC bar and Transgo.

Wow, just installed and maps work as advertised. First map, immobilizer, switched to map 1 and bam engine slowly died and rpms went to 0! Changed map to two (valet) and turned on car. Floored it and rpms maxes at 3,500. On the fly switched to 87 economy. Then 91 octane. Tone of exhaust got noticeably deeper! Then slightly deeper with 93 map. So cool.

Shifts seem firmer, engine red line is higher.

Easiest mod ever. Plug in and you are done.

I just haven't mounted it.

Nice, is it very torquey. How does it feel?

Chip is in! Now, transgo, transgo, transgo......

I was on daddy duty, didn't open it up with the baby in the rear seat.

Andy, you will be very pleased to get this 5 way switch and new maps. BTW, most places I've gone (now that I pay attention) are all 93 octane gas.

I love now just turning on the car and switching from Maps 2-5 to hear the exhaust note change at idle.

If I can only get Aaron @ Unichip to move. I sent him an email on yesterday morning, still no reply. Spoke with him Thursday afternoon and was told it would be easier if the conversation is via email. I guess I have to call him later to tell him to check his email.:err:
