Chedman13's 2003 FX45

Go Ed Go! Hey, what the hell is on your radiator, is that cow dung? Where do you drive?

---------- Post added at 02:58 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:57 PM ----------

BTW, that is a perfect picture of the pick-up install and will be very helpful to fan modders.....

Used to live on a farm, central Illinois. Remember? (seriously).

How did you set your Dakota Controller? Just plug and play or did you mess with the settings on what temp to turn on/off, etc...

Instructions look complicated (because I'm too lazy to read).

looking good bro, higher grade stainless can be detected by it's non magnetic status, anything from 304 grade up will be non magnetic, there are some lower grades that can still be stainless but still be magnetic too,(like the crap that stillen uses :)) like a 409 for example so this isn't foolproof, but if it is non magnetic then at least you'll know for sure it is stainless

Sweet, thanks John.

Now to find a magnet... I carry around the gasket kit in my briefcase, is that sad?

The shop set the temp to kick on before the mid point on the gauge and kick off after it reached a cooling point. It took a little bit of fiddling around, I wasn't there for this part and I wouldn't hesitate to call Dakota.

Looking good Ed! Thanks for the pictures, I haven't done all my homework on the UniChip yet outside of what I've learned here but the shot of the box pointed out these guys are here in Oregon. Checking their website shows they will do install including custom tune and hardware so once I lock in the right FX, get a few bolt ons, then I'll be heading up to visit UniChip for some custom tuning goodness! :D

Oh wow, lucky you -- right in your backyard. I would drive there tonight if I was close=)

Just sent in the UniChip for a software update and harness update since I have a QX56 one.

There are two 5-Way Map-Selection Switch, one is electronic the other is rotary. I want the electronic one since it says "1" "2" "3" "4" "5" instead of just a position.

Having 5 maps made:
Map in position 1 – Security/anti-theft, immobilizes vehicle (engine doesn't turn over) or makes max speed 1 mph and 1k RPM redline limit.

Map in position 2 – Valet Mode, speed limiter, RPM redline limiter. Wasn't sure what exactly, letting them pick. I figure around 30 mph and 3k RPM redline limiter?

Map in position 3 – Fuel Economy mode: so stock map with a lower rev limiter and slightly leaner fuel targets to compensate for the aftermarket intake and exhaust. Tune to premium fuel, as I only use 91 or 93 octane.

Map in position 4 – Aggressive, max hp and torque, 91 octane, aftermarket intake and exhaust.

Map in position 5 – Aggressive, max hp and torque, 93 octane, aftermarket intake and exhaust.

I told them about my e-Fan, but doesn't think that will matter, nor the Transgo when I get it. At least for their tune.

I'm having two aggressive maps because it's random if I can find 91 or 93 octane premium fuel where I drive.

Also, I decided NOT to go with a stock map. I can just unplug, why waste a map? Most likely with the intake and exhaust, I am running a little lean anyways so stock map really isn't that good anymore. So I want to maximize fuel economy or just drive all out.

Valet just makes sense, but hope to never have to valet.

Security mode makes sense too, just additional security and hassle for the thief. Not hard to remove the UniChip or find my 5-way switch (but I can remove the switch and take it with me), but may slow down the thief.

I want to hide the Switch when I get my UniChip. Any plans to put it?

Probably in center console compartment so I can reach it and switch on the fly.

When I am exiting the car, I can take it with me or hide in the car:

This looks great Ed, I will probably do something similar with my maps though I don't
think I'll need as many. I like the anti-theft and valet modes you are doing...great idea.

They are so busy, they still haven't quoted me a price... Maps might even be free...

I'll find out soon enough. You can physically talk to them in person, which is nice.

You could always just keep a base map too, so if you ever did dyno tune, you can see how much HP you gain from switching maps.

 Ed great idea on the maps. Like I've told you, I will take a carbon copy of your map idea and have them make it for mine FX35.

new intake, universal tube to get rid of baffles. No weird idle or issues!
