Fading trim TSB

So let me get this straight... there's a KNOWN issue about my particular FX with fading trim around the windows, and it won't be fixed unless I pay for it???

There's parts of that same trim that are perfect, how the rest of them SHOULD have been, and still glossy on a 4 yr old car. The 8 other parts are like flat black and fading even still.

I'm set up with the Infiniti dealer in VA Beach to get the fuel filler hose and headlights/taillights swapped and I brought up the faded trim.

Unfortunately my car wasn't running in time for my trip home to Chicago, I had made an appt with MotorWerks Infiniti in Schaumburg, IL and they just told me to find out which ones are faded and they can order 'em up. I had to cancel there because the car wasn't ready and I flew home instead. Now this VA Beach Charles Barker Infiniti doesn't want to replace because I'm no longer under warranty. The biotch said all she can do is give me a price quote on it. They won't even give me a loaner (MotorWerks was planning on hookin me up with a loaner) while these recalls are done. Wtf is up with the difference in Infiniti dealers? I wish I was back home

So basically, how can I get them to replace my retardedly UGLY fading trim on their dime?

Another thing, exterior-related, is my front bumper. I noticed a small peeling spot about a year ago, and then it's just gotten worse and worse. Then I realize that on the side of this peeling spot, there looks like some paint drippage like it was over-sprayed.

Now I look for more stuff and underneath the headlights, it's flaking like a mofo! So it looks like this thing got in a lil accident on the front and wasn't reported. The cheapo got it repainted for pennies probably because the front bumper is atrocious!

Its a toss up Cube in which dealerships are willing to replace them under warranty and which aren't. I was also rejected by one dealership here socal. It seems that the FX is not the only infiniti vehicle that suffers from this issue.

my trim's fading as well... I tried using Mother's "Back to Black" and it help a little... but I had to buffer/rub extremely rigorous to even see a little difference... I don't know about yours but mine seem to be partially scum or something not necessarily fade

Yeah Ken, it's not just fade. It looks like I can scratch off a layer of somethin, but it seems like it's actually an outter layer of the material itself I'd be scratching off.

Either way I'm gonna try other Infiniti dealerships, maybe if I drive home to Chicago again, I'll look up every Infiniti dealership on the way and give them all a call to see if any of them will replace it lol... there's gotta be atleast 6 Infiniti dealerships on the way and if none, I can always resort to good ol' Schaumburg Infiniti.

Ken, try to see if you can get them to replace it?

im having my 03 in the process of completion. most were done around june and im waiting for 2 trims that they have to reorder and a door handle they scratched last service. i have to keep calling to get an update . it seems like they are trying to avoid this work somehow.

according to my dealer initially, infiniti stopped covering them under warranty. they have to call and get some approval. i also got conflicting info (rep says this is common, manager says im the first one to report it). they were almost telling me that they wont cover it until i told them i am aware that there is a tsb for this (i showed them) and that there are other owners having the same fading issue.

it looks like the trim has a clear plastic layer that is the source of the fading. ill post an update when i bring mine back.

I am out of warranty and Fields Infiniti of Glencoe, IL did mine for free.

I would think, besides the dealers giving everyone a hard time, you're outa warranty. So it's totally their discretion, & they most likely dont get reimbursed for the work. Why did you wait so long???:err:

Good luck . . let us know

I bought the car used, and I thought this was like a recall thing. The headlights and tail lights are being replaced because they were a KNOWN production fault, so why wouldn't this fall under the same category? What if somebody can't see me because my window trim isn't reflective enough and they crashed into my side and sent me off the road into a ditch? If they replace this on their dime since it was their manufacturing error, then maybe the extra reflective pieces will ward away people trying to merge into me

Either way, I think if it's a known fault on their build/materials, they should be covering the bill warranty or not, just like the fuel filler hose and lights.

Sorry, but I disagree under the thinking . . not a safety recall. While I would love to see you repaired, fact is, the window sash moulding falls under the bumper to bumper 4 year warranty. You'll never win this one in court, but you can opt to find a nice dealer . . then get on your knees

Mines fading too, so I'll make sure to go before my papers expire.

Eh, I'll just take it back home to Chicago. So far we're 2/2 on nice dealerships there.

They DO get money for them. Infiniti dishes out the dollah'z.

Maybe I'll get a tranny flush and they'll be more than happy to do the trim.

Can somebody provide me with the TSB #? For some reason I can't find it. Also is this only for the window trims or would it include the black portion on top of the hatch? The reason I am asking is because I was washing my car today and noticed that the hatch portion had some fade to it. It kind of looks like sun damage when the car has been kept outside for many years. It's a small trouble spot but from my experience it's only going to get worse over time.

For future reference, we do have a TSB section here Z33.

Which dealer did you go to Will?

I took it to Metro Infiniti - off the 210 Fwy.....they had to order the parts, but didnt hassle me about anything.

Nah just warranty stuff - I've been taking it to LMS for my maintenance & Performance.

Hey , might want to try the Infiniti dealeraship in Richmond Va that's who did mine but I had to go talk to Service Manager then call Infiniti Corp. they then set up to have some specialist take a look , but then the Service manager got his wits about him and did not want the Infinti Corp. guy to come down I guess to find out the he was not doing his job so they replaced them ........but my 04 is still under warranty though. Good Luck. K
