This is my intro: I have a 2009 fx50s. My engine needs to be replaced because they're saying I need new sprockets which would cost 6K at the dealership. I plan on just replacing the whole engine with a used one. My question is can I replace my 2009 engine with any model year including 2011-2014‽

Before you head down the road of changing the engine, what symptoms do you have. If it is just the cam sprockets, then an independent tech shop should be able to do it for considerably less. I suggest that you find a local garage that is familiar with Nissan/Infiniti (not the dealer) and have them look at the vehicle.

So I've got the cam and crank sensors changed by the dealership after they suggested to do it in the screenshot. The screenshot Ajay says I need new intake and exhaust timing sprockets. And timing control solenoids.

The local shop I was dealing with, which wasn't really good in my opinion, said I needed a new engine timing chain kit , which is for 18 hours of labor. Therefore, I took it to the dealership to see if the local guy was correct.

18 hours for a new timing chain is crazy. I don't know what the book time is, but that seems excessive. Since your issues seem to be timing related, you haven't said what your symptoms are, I assume you are getting P0011, P0021, P0014, or P0024 codes and your FX is going into limp mode above 3500 rpm. How many miles on your car?

BTW, the pic is too small to read.

I'm copying and pasting what the dealership wrote as the diagnosis. please note that I replaced all the cam and crankshaft sensors at the dealership so that should no longer be the problem anymore. At this point right now the check engine light is blinking. The car is rumbling at most times. it gets stuck in the third or fourth gear. When I put the pedal all the way down it does not accelerate, it flatlined. got to push the pedal slow for acceleration.

"
replace the crank position sensor, and both all cam sensor( don't know if the sensor are factory parts, but some aftermarkets sensor do not work properly in most infiniti vehicles, retest system may need cam sockets and solenoids additionally (fault codes p0011 intake timing control bank 1, and p1084 exhaust timing control bank 2. looking at the data monitor and found exhaust bank 1 is reading 1 degrees at all times, and bank 2 exhaust and both bank 1 &2 all show zero degrees at all times)

replace both intake and both exhaust timing sprockets also replace the timing control solenoids (fault codes p0011 intake timing control bank 1, and p1084 exhaust timing control bank 2. looking at the data monitor and found exhaust bank 1 is reading 1 degrees at all times. and bank 2 exhaust and both bank 1 &2 all show zero degrees at all times)"

The dealership info is a bit confusing. If they changed both cam sensors (there are four), which did they change and why wouldn't they know that they are factory parts. I had a P0011 problem last year that was resolved by changing the intake vvt solenoid. Your symptoms are indicative of a timing issue, but there several items that could cause the problems. I do not where you are located, but if you post your location perhaps someone can recommend a good shop in your area.

I posted on the other site about the engine interchange.

At this point 2 places have told me to get a new engine if I want to save the car, but that I'm probably better off selling it. But I am wanting to fix it as it may be less trouble than finding a similar fast suv.

Long story short , the dealership told me to change the cam and crank sensors, I went to a local body shop to do it because I thought it would be cheaper. They changed it but I still had the same problems of bad acceleration, rumbling, and having press the gas to start it after initial crank. So I took it back to the dealer to see what the problem was and that is what they said. They changed the 4 can sensors, and even though the body shop said they changed the sensors the dealership found some rusted cam sensor when they replaced it. I'm in Alexandria Virginia but plan on getting my engine replaced in Maryland.

Swapping the engine seems excessive for what is essentially a timing issue. Who knows if the donor engine won't have a similar issue? You could have the sprockets, solenoids, timing chain, and guides replaced and I think you would be better off. I suggest you start with finding a good independent shop. There must be a Nissan/Infiniti club in or near Alexandria. Someone should be able to point you in the right direction.

If you are firm on an engine swap, you should be able to get some money for your engine. Best of Luck
