Greetings,

Has anyone installed the Cerwin-Vega VPAS12ST Spare Tire Subwoofer in a 2015 QX70? If so, does it fit without having to remove the spare tire?

Thanks,
TC

* Update*I had this installed last week and all I can say is WOW!! This thing rocks and fits perfectly without a need to remove the spare tire.

That's great news - mind sharing what it took to do the install and price paid for the unit as well as the install? Thanks!

I bought the sub from https://www.sonicelectronix.com/ and used a 10% off coupon. They now have a 15% off coupon for all Cerwin Vega products. I paid $150 to have it installed. I was going to install it myself but I was being lazy wanted it done then and did want to try to figure out which wires were what etc.

I attached few pics. They tapped into the wiring harness so I can go back to factory if needed with a simple reconnect.

So this is a noticeable upgrade from the factory unit? I was looking at exocets thread and saw that there are quite a few of these style replacements out now.

Would you be able to let us know which wire from the Car side match up to the subwoofer connector? I know I have this planned on my list in the near future as well.

does this have a built in amp as well or do you need to install an amp with it? i built my own box and removed the spare tire, my issue is storing the damn tire, id rather just put it back in the car lol. i also did the akebono brake kit upgrade so I'm not sure the spare tire would fit anymore anyway

Yes it has its own built in amplifier. Simple enough to put the spare back in and put this one on top like the bose sub was.

I bought this same sub and will be attempting to do the install myself in the coming weekends. If you have any tips that you feel will make the wiring easier, I'm all ears.

I would suggest running a dedicated power wire from the battery to the hatch. I removed the battery surround and cowl to gain more access to the main grommet that goes through the firewall. That made a world of difference for me. After that, the hookup was a breeze. If the wiring isnt posted anywhere let me know and I will pull it and post it when I get a chance.

Thanks for the feedback. What kind of difference did running a dedicated power line from the battery make with the sub's performance?

Any wiring help would be greatly appreciated. But no rush, as I don't plan to tackle this for maybe another couple of weeks.

I did that immediately, and did NOT use the stock power wire in the Bose harness. But the reason behind this is because the Cerwin Vega amp may pull more power than the Bose does and this way it will able to supply the proper amount without popping a fuse or straining the line.

Here are the instructions I posted on the Infiniti FX/QX Page for your reference:

Ran an 8 gauge power wire (with fuse) from the battery to the hatch (blue wire in the picture) and a ground as well. Then connect the following from the bose harness to the sub harness

Grey wire= remote white
red wire= positive + speaker terminal
green wire= negative - speaker terminal

Power wire to the thick red on the sub harness
Ground wire to the thick black on the sub harness

Looking to do this install soon. Can anyone who's done this tell me once you get the power wire from the battery passed the firewall, whats the best place to run the wire to get to the back and to the spare tire compartment? Any advice or tips would be great.

I just ran the power wire down the passenger side of the vehicle.

I wonder if a capacitor could alleviate the need for a new power wire to be ran.

Did anyone take note of the factory power wire size? Or how much power the Bose sub uses in comparison to the cerwin?
