Dashboard Replacement

Like almost everyone else who has owned a 2006 FX35 my dashboard was getting bubbly and really bad due to the Texas heat. I was able to locate a dashboard from a 2008 and had it shipped to me to replace it. I didn’t record the process on my first attempt, but I am debating if I should attempt it again and record it this time for future reference.

I just want to say if you are considering doing it the process isn’t difficult but it really is time consuming. I did it over a weekend from Saturday afternoon to Sunday afternoon.

I attached a few pics of the process. If y’all have any general questions feel free to ask.

FYI you will absolutely need a steering wheel puller to get the dashboard off unless you end up cutting it like I did out of frustration with a dremel. I was stubborn thinking I could get it off and wasted a whole hour of my life trying to get it off not to mention smearing all the sticky residue of the glue and dash on my windshield and steering wheel.

If you do it again I would be very interested in your step by step. Mine is just in the starting phase of bubbling and I am debating whether to get the part and do it myself or get an upholstery shop to do it.

I started recording some video clips with my GoPro. I wanted to record the rest of it this weekend but it’s calling for rain for almost a straight week so I’ll have to finish the videos when it’s better weather.

I had debated the same thing but I found this replacement dash for about $260 at a junkyard and the upholstery quote I got was more than that so I went the replacement dash route.

Out of curiosity, how much did the upholstery shop quote you? I don't think I am going to be able to find a used dash around here without bubbles and the new part is about $2000 Canadian.

$365 was the lowest, but that would be with me removing the dashboard and putting it back on myself.
