2009 FX50 Base or 2016 QX70s? Decision time

Hey guys, I could use some guidance, insight, contribution, advice......you get the idea! Things like this are not always easy to decide and I want to imagine it happens to most people car shopping. I currently drive an 04 FX45 (315hp) and I think it is time for an upgrade so I am currently in the market for:

MY SHOPPING LIST:
1. 2014 QX70s 5.0 v8 ( i know...I know...super rare! None for sale in the US. Found one in Canada, too much hurdles to cross with importation regulations and the current Pandemic, so I let it go. If anyone knows where to find one, please! )
2. 2016 QX70s 3.7 v6
3.2013 fx50s
4. 2014 - 2016 Audi A7 Prestige ( love the A7 although not as reliable as the Infiniti FX QX series, correct me if I am wrong.)

WHAT I FOUND SO FAR:
1. 2016 QX70s (325hp) 45,000 miles $17,000 after negotiation
2. 2009 fx50 base (390hp) 50,000 miles $13,000 Firm

Now I have to decide which one makes more sense. I like the fx50 for the power but considering that my FX45 makes 10hp less than the QX70s and has fewer features and tech, it is worth considering. Which of these would you buy? Thanks!

Tough choice!
I love the Audi A7 but not sure you can compare that to the QX70, it’s not apples to apples here, they are 2 completely different animals. If you are looking for raw power and old school driving feel the QX70 is the answer. The A7 is a much more refined buttoned down experience. If you enjoy more isolated experience with more focus on comfort and less road noise and feel then the A7 is your answer.

I own a 2014 QX70 5.0 and it’s a great car but honestly the V6 is plenty potent. If you end up settling for the QX70 my advice is make sure you get the sports package that has the paddle shifters. The transmission is the week point here for these cars and I find myself driving the car 90% of the time in manual mode otherwise the transmission would drive me nuts.

Have you test drove the two? The 09 FX50 steering feels much lighter then 16 QX70S. My preference would be the 16 QX70S.

I have an fx35 2012. I have it cause it literally popped up in my town for the right price. I bought that in November 2019 to hold me over while I hunt a V8.

Every 2-3 days I do a national search for a white fx50 with brown leather interior.

I've yet to find it. My 2 cents - if you found the 50 you want, go for it. As I said I search all the time and my unicorn hasn't appeared. If you don't like it, you can always unload it and pickup a qx70, v6 they are everywhere.

It's muuuuch harder to source and secure a V8 model. The qx 70 V8? Hahahaha good luck. :/

Also there are so many times I wish I had the additional torque and especially sound from the flat plane crank V8.

Thanks I'm leaning more towards the Infiniti. Audi's reliability and longevity, especially the A7 is of concern to me. It is not about the cost of maintenance, but i worry about unscheduled visits to the repair shop, something I very rarely do with my FX45. I still love the A7 though. So now it is a battle between the FX50 and the QX70s that I've found.

Yes, one of the reasons It made it on my list is power. But the only reason i worry about the 2009 FX50 is the age and the value it will lose in my years of owning it. What will it be worth in 4 - 5years when I'm ready for another car and the mileage has doubled? This is not by any chance a disqualified, it is just something I am considering. But yes, I agree with you, the power, I want.

The V8 has much more torque and it’s very evident when you drive them back to back. That being said, if you get the V6 with rear wheel drive then you get a 50/50 weight distribution which handles better especially on cornering and overall feel. The V8 is nose heavy because of the weight of the engine upfront and the all wheel drive system setup. So the V6 is the better handling one. I wouldn’t worry so much about the horsepower figures.
