295/40/21 works beautifully...

Had a tire emergency where the wife’s Bridgestone Dueler HL400 tires were dry rotted. Based on an older thread where a member fitted these 295 wide tires, we had the Continental Control Contact Sport A/S fitted. From what I understand, these tires are made exclusively for Discount Tire and are supposedly not as aggressive as the Extreme DWS 06. We’ll see I guess. We have the DWS 06 on her Vette and I had them on my old BMW and they are great tires. These are 50k miles rated and cost about the same as the DWSs but with a better ride supposedly. I have 30 days to return if I don’t like them, but the main point of the thread is to show how the 295s fit the 21s with no issue.

Nice! how do they feel while driving?

Going to have to get new tires for my 21's soon and not a big fan of the Bridgestone Duelers.

They feel good so far. I think I’d still like the DWS06 better, but the wife could care less. It’s her car and she’s perfectly fine with them as long as there are no traction problems. The Duelers are just a decent tire...just glad we have variety to choose from now!

yeah, they actually work pretty well on all the cars I’ve used them on, but my POS BMW just chews them up. The whole suspension is shot, so I’ve relegated to just using cheap tires on it until it gets tossed.

Looks nice! What’s the width of the 21” rim? Is the 295 rated to fit on that rim?

And what’s the aspect ratio of the tire?

I went for the oem sized Michelin’s on mine since I’ve almost given up on anything except Michelin, as their tires are nearly always best in class. I do have a set of Conti ExtremeContacts on my G and, while not as good as the pilot supersports or pilot 4S, they are a pretty good tire and they look good too,

No, that tire (and all/most tires that size) are rated for a 10 - 11.5" wheel. The 21" wheel is 9.5" wide, so this tire is probably pretty 'loose' (for lack of better word) on it. Conti's are known to have very soft sidewalls as it is; so putting this wide of a Conti on the OEM 21, I'm not sure how they feel handling-wise.

The stock 265's are usually rated for up to a 10" wheel so they are safely stretched out, making for a nice, firm sidewall.

These tires are perfectly fine on this 9.5” wheel. No squirm or unsettled motions in cornering to indicate a soft sidewall. Great stability at speed with no tramlining with the extra rubber on the road. True, Contis tend to have a soft sidewall, but that also results in a pretty compliant ride....something needed for wheels as large as these. Either way, they are great all-around tires.

How is highway stability?

Any way you can post a pic with direct rear view? Want to see if the wider tires make it look "beefier".

Highway stability is much better than the thinner Duelers. The rear end was squirmy and shifted a lot with the old tires and I thought for sure we needed shocks. However, the rebound during bumps was solid, no bounce. After changing tires, the rear tracks perfectly now so those old tires were apparently about to let go. We might’ve seen a 1/2 mpg hit due to the wider rubber. I’ll get an ass pic as soon as the car is back in the garage...
