Transmission Flush 2010 FX50s

Car
2010 Fx50s
Ever since I purchased the FX I kept telling myself why does my wife's 2011 Sienna shift much smoother than this. It always seems to be "hunting" for a gear. When I had the car inspected, the dealer (Infiniti of Dublin (CA)) recommended a trans flushed and as well as reading the forums, sounded like a good idea. During the visit, they found the ECM/TCM was out dated (although during the inspection they said it was up-to-date). In either case, the computers were updated and now the trans shifts fantastic! Still a little concerned with a fluttering noise on deceleration that has to be looked and and what sounds to be the infamous axle click. Overall I am happy with the result!

What did they charge you? And did they use the correct fluid? Nissan matic s?

Sienna is a family mini van used for comfortable family hauling... FX50 is a sport-oriented SUV with a lemans derived V8. Of course it will be a little rougher... however a trans fluid change will always help w that, hopefully nothing bad comes from it depending on the miles on it before the fluid change..

Yes, totally agree. However, the shifting should not be hunting for a gear or feel likes it shift 2-3-4-3-4 when slowing to a stop light. I've driven, owned, etc anything from race cars to the family oriented and most in between. It was definitely not a normal type of shift.

Yeah probably needs the flash then. Funny enough I drive supercars often that also feel like they are searching for gears when in auto mode around town lol

Wait, didn't Infiniti say the transmission is a "sealed unit" and should last a "life time"? Now they recommend the flush? :( So what to believe now?

I am about to do mine on my own. Just bought 10qt Matic S arriving coming in this Thurs.

Just do it. It's an easy job. Took me 1 hour to do 3x drain and fill for my 2010 fx35.

Yes, sir.
Hey, question tho, does your 2010 come with an actual dip stick opening or it's just an dip stick alike cap+hose to transmission breather valve?

No, the 2010 fx35 comes with a "sealed" transmission unit. It has a drain plug and a fill plug at the bottom of the transmission oil pan.

fill plug?!! Where? I saw the drain plug. Where is the fill plug?!!

Again this is only for 2010 FX35, as I don't know about FX50. But the fill plug is also at the bottom of the pan. It is the plug with 10mm hex. The drain plug is 19mm socket type.

Mine is also FX35. Yea, I see the bolt that you were talking abt, which requires the fluid pump to get the fluid in.
I am going after the breather valve on top of the transmission and bleed the old fluid through the radiator loop line, which is what I always do with other vehicles. Wish me luck.

Oh I didn't drop the pan to clean btw. The FX has a lot of clearance, so I only had to jack one side of the car up for about 2-3 inches.

Before you start, make sure the hand break is applied, and it should stay engaged all the time. Also make sure your car is level. This is particularly important in the last step to make sure you have the right amount of fluid. Oh, and don't forget to use the stand.

With that said, the steps are:
1. Drain and measure the amount of fluid coming out. Close the drain plug.
2. Pump in the same amount of fluid.
3. Don't remove anything if you have the drain fill adapter (just close the ball valve or release the spray trigger), otherwise you need to close the fill plug.
4. Start the engine, let it run for 2 mins in P, then shift to R -> N -> D -> N -> R -> P. Stay 20 sec in each position.
5. Shut off the engine.

6. Repeat steps 1-5.

7. Repeat steps 1-4. However this time, pump in an extra half quart in step 2.
8. With the engine running and gear is in P, put the drain pan under the fill plug, slowly open the fill plug, let the fluid drain out until dripping, close the fill plug.
9. Shut off the engine.
10. Done.

Let me know if you have any questions.
