Infiniti DROPS the 2018 QX70 from Lineup

That sucks. Wonder what it will do to the used car values now that supply just got more limited?

Also where are you guys seeing that they are dumping the q70? New news to me. Just picked up a m56 a few months ago to match my fx50, hopefully I will not have 2 discontinued models

It's not really that surprising since they only sold a little over 6k of them last year. For reference, Audi sold ~50k Q5's and Lexus sold 110k of the RX. Even Porsche sold twice as many Cayenne's and that is a much more expensive vehicle. Infiniti is mass luxury, they're not a quirky high end brand that can get by on selling hundreds of cars per month. The QX70 was selling in the hundreds per month. I'm sure they're looking over at Lexus selling 10K per month of the RX. Though I personally think the Infiniti is a much better driver's car, that's not what sells. Going to a Murano based FWD platform makes sense if they're chasing Lexus which they have been since inception. The FWD QX30 and QX60 both outsell the QX70 (QX60 by a large margin). It's a valid plan to drop the 70 and replace with 50 which will be similar in size, can't have both.

Personally I think Infiniti needs to work on their focus. It's a very crowded field out there these days and a lot of amazing cars. Infiniti isn't competitive against most of them right now. The original Q45, G35, and FX were exciting and innovative but they really haven't had anything since then.

Not surprising @ all. What surprises me is they still make'em. I live in an area where one comes across many hot cars. Got a Ferrari, Porshe 911 & Audi s5 just down the street (small hood). Drive around here for an hour & one is bound to see something bad-ass. There's a fair share of the 1st gen fx35's around here, always looking sharp. For every 2nd gen I see, I'll see 4 + 1st gen's, no spit. Don't mean to be inflammatory, just the truth. Recent Porsche Macon forum had many talking about how they love the 1st gen fx. Many of them used to own one. Forum police said "enough about the fx a-holes, this is a porsche site". I lol. Will be a long time before another trend setter like the first gen fx makes an appearance.

I would agree that the Porsche Macan looks like a modern FX. Had I not needed a third row and more room, I would have gotten it to replace the FX. These days I don't think Infiniti's have a distinctive style like they used to. They put that weird kink in the C pillar but not sure if that's a calling card. Love it or hate it but when you see a new Lexus, you know exactly what it is. Same for BMW, MB, Audi, Porsche, Range Rover. Infiniti's look very generic - at first glance, the Q50 looks suspiciously like a Mazda 6.

I agree with all the above except that the bacon looks like a modern fx. I like the bacon. Probably my next choice for a crossover, but too many vents on the nose & the price tag for a bacon turbo is a bit lofty for what it is. Same w/the x5m I mean come on, the euro's lost big ground against the dollar. I believe, my opinion now, but I believe that the designers of the jaguar, porsche bacon (not cayenne), maserati & mazda's cx9 all took a photo of the 1st gen fx, outlined it & then made incremental changes from there. Again, my opinion, but the 1st gen fx looks better than all the above. The cx-9 has the next best front end.
Guess the qx30 is the replacement for the qx70? Infiniti's version of a hatchback.

I mean, they killed it off themselves when they dropped the v8 and stopped updating it....had they kept it up with the performance suv market, and actually advertised it, their sales figures would look a lot better... Silly infiniti, you make me sad.

This is Nissan wanting to kill off Infiniti. Very. Sad. News.

Infiniti will still stay with QX60 selling so well. I think they are just trying to consolidate the lineups since the new design of QX50 is cutting so close to the niche of QX70.

The first gen fx looked so good. A masterpiece.
The second gen (no offense)not up to par.

I was really waiting for the classic fx comeback ....

They coulda just brought back the 1 st gen with updated interior and tranny and i woulda bought another one.

Ill be ditching my 13 Q5. My next choice will have to be a Q7 or gle 43 coupe.

Wow. Disappointed. I sold my 1st Gen FX a few years ago, but missed it, and hoped they would come out with a cool new update. I drove a QX60, and it was like driving a marshmallow. Guess 3 rows and boring handling are popular these days. :(

In 2003, I bought my first new Infiniti - An outstanding and superior FX45 in beautiful Beryllium, and have since not owned anything that comes close to comparing. Along the way, I bought some new 2nd generation FX35's and while they were great, did not provide the same thrill as driving the 2003 FX45. I kept hoping for an improved upgrade every year, but instead of improving, they became more "ho-hum". I will say that when I first saw and purchased my FX45, I said at the time that I did not know how it would be possible to ever improve the appearance. Accordingly their 2nd generation was a slight step back (my opinion).

Infiniti really disappointed me when dropping the FX name, going to the Q Series instead. The FX name still does something for me and I always called the QX70 an FX anyhow. My wife once owned a G35 coupe and later several M sedans - all very nice cars and fun to drive. In 2016 my wife bought a new 2016 QX50 which we like, but it is certainly not exciting to drive. While watching and waiting for the new QX70 scheduled for 2018, I bought a new 2017 QX30 and while it has plenty of pep and looks pretty good, it is a little small, so I was anxiously awaiting the new 2018 QX70 - again hoping for a miracle. I guess after owning many Infinitis from 2003 to 2017, we will be looking elsewhere now. Sorry Infiniti and FX - we will miss you.

Fritz agrees 100% with the above comments. I was really waiting for the classic FX comeback in 2018 and ready to buy, but my hopes are now lost.

It's interesting seeing the varying opinions on the generations. I personally would never purchase a 1 gen, but glad they get love.

I really really hope they pull their heads out and relaunch the platform to compete with the macan, x6, etc.

I was a bit heartbroken when I heard the news as well, but the writing was on the wall as the fruit has been rotting on the vine for quite some time. Such a shame to see a segment originator bow out with a whimper, especially with the surging popularity of the X6, Macan, etc.

Hey bud! I'm your new neighbor! Just bought the shack across the street, the one in your 2nd photo. It's a bit on the smallish side though, so I'm throwing it back up for sale. Cheers.

Looking at all the cosmetic QX70 mods on this site, it's not surprising. Not a particularly attractive vehicle. That chinless front end is just hideous, and the solution was available from the start. Why they pulled off the lower skirts when they came to market is a mystery to me.

I don't like the chin spoiler, makes the front look heavy. I would not have said no to the splitter from the Vettel edition however.
