I'm looking to paint the chrome vents and the chrome on my grille on my 2011 FX35? Has anybody tried this or posted a diy? Any help would be appreciated.

the grill is easy enough to remove and mask off. the vents im pretty sure you need to go through the front wheel well. and the clips are fragile.

Has anybody yet tried to remove the vents on the forums?

By the way, if your vents are chromed, you can't simply paint over them. It will involve some sanding, adhesion promoter, primer, paint, and clearcoat. My local bodyshop would not do the work because they were fearful of the paint wearing off and couldn't back it with their warranty. That's why some will advocate plastidip.

All 4 of his posts are about that company. Surprised he hasn't been warned or banned for trying to skirt the rules.

FWIW, painting the grille is easier than wrapping due to the complexity and shape. It's likely cheaper too. I had mine painted at a shop and it's been 4 years, still holding up. The chrome isn't a big deal for most shops. Once they've sanded paint adheres just fine. Many shops just don't want to do the work.

Yeah, I am just going to plastidip mine, so I don't have to take them off, and worry about breaking the clips. Though, I will be taking my grill off to dip it.
