Greetings fellow gear heads..biggthumpup.gif I just picked up the new Infiniti QX70 3.7 AWD about a month ago, and I just hit approximately 1300 miles, and I was going to do its first service.

Oil change: Mobil 1 -- 5w-30 (5.2 qts)
Differential Flush (Front & Rear):
K&N drop ins.

My question to you fellow gear heads because there's NOT a lot of information out there on this particular vehicle, ie. youtube, car care kiosk.

Does the AWD have front and rear differentials? Im assuming it does, had my car been rear wheel drive, it would only have a rear differential, correct?.

According to print out from Oreillys:
Front Differential: .069 qts. GL-5, 80w-90
Rear Differential: 1.48 qts. GL-5, 80w-90

**It says to use Genuine Nissan Differential Oil Hypoid Super GL-5 80w-90 or equivalent.

What would you guys recommend as far as an equivalent? Does this vehicle have a transfer case and what is its purpose? Any insight from you guys would be awesome.

Sorry if these questions come off as newby-ish.. its my first automatic transmission and SUV.

Thanks guys so much!

You want to change not only the engine oil but also the diff oils after 1300 miles? Why?!

Oh, and the info is in the owners manual.

There's a center diff that appropriates power front and rear as needed depending on slip at the rear wheels, but obviously no low range or any type of manual control over it's operation (other than the snow button which locks the power split to 50/50 under IIRC 12mph). Front and rear diffs are open type.

Thanks man, very very good information.. Dont vehicles like this have "break in" periods? I've got a 370z and at 1000 miles, I flushed the differential and the drain nutt had a pretty significant amount of metal shavings on it.

You should do them. I did my rear diff at 1k miles and 40-50k intervals after that. The tranny I did at 30k and then at 90k. The diff had A LOT of crap in it. Its like that for every car when you drain the initial fill. My GTR calls for tranny fluid and diffs at 36k but at only 5k miles the front diff fluid was BLACK rear diff not as bad and the tranny fluid was a bit dark as well. Good job for taking care of your car!

Thanks so much bro...

You have a transfer case, transmission, two diffs and engine oil.

I would just do your oil change right now, and wait till 5k to do your two diffs and transfer case.

I wouldn't touch your transmission until 30k. And even then I would just start doing drain and fills everytime you do an oil change (for maybe 3 or 4 times).

Dude, thank you, this is excellent information, thanks so much man. Too damn easy. I honestly can not wait to work on this car.

Every dealer I have gone to has said not to touch/change the oil on the trans for the ones that we have 2009+ 7 speeds / they are sealed. That did seem bizzare to me but when when 3 dealerships in Michigan and 1 in Chicago all have told me the same thing, I stuck with Infiniti's recommendation. Apparently you could cause more harm than good by breaking the factory seal. I'm talking about just the transmission. The transfer case / diffs should be done every 30k I believe.

Yes, the 2nd gen FX (7 speed) does not require a regular transmission fluid change. It is sealed from the factory. Apparently according to a service manager, the fluid will out last the tranny... o_O

Also, I change the rear diff fluid twice as often as the front since the AWD system is rear wheels bias.

Noted.. Thank you.

That makes sense. What fluid are you using?

Many dealers (including Infiniti back in 2010) told me when I bought my cars that the tranny fluid is "lifetime fluid doesnt need to be replaced". Still never gonna buy that... especially if the maintence book says to do it... until they give me a lifetime warranty. It doesn't hurt to just drain and refill once every 30-60k miles. But if you are already past ~80k miles even draining and refilling would probably cause harm if you haven't done it before.
