Hi:
I'm living in new york, the state with crazy snow sometime.
I'm just wondering why don't the people just drive with snow tire all around ??
maybe the snow tires will wear too fast in the hot summer? or too hard for the ride?

it's a silly question, but I really just don't understand :)

Winter Tires have special compounds built into them that provide exceptional grip and traction on icy and slippery surfaces. They also have special siping cut into the tires for better grip.
When temps get above 10C or 50F these compounds will start to wear exceptionally fast.
Your winter tires would be wore out in no time if you kept them on year round.

^^ +1..

Winter tires have a softer rubber compound to keep them from hardening (thus losing traction) at low degrees. It'll still grip well in the summer but it'll wear much faster much like a very soft high performance tire.

IMO All year round tires is the way to go.. More expensive but don't have to worry about seasonal change..

i drive with my paradas all year around in nyc. Their not dedicated winter tires but they've been doing fine in the snow.

anyhoo, i dont think swapping summer to winter wheels is such a big deal. Either have a mechanic do it for you and align it also or you can just do it yourself in a hour

I live in ny too...the winter tires will start to get all melty and they handle horribly compared to regular/allseason/summer... I have 2 sets of wheels for the fx....19's with fat rubber for winter and 20's with allseason/summer for the summer...it's a good investment to get another set for the winter...

I was surprised how much better winter tires are vs all-seasons. Takes me 30 minutes to swap and torque everything to 85 ft-lbs.

My non-winter wheels/tires get more life and don't have to worry about salt. I run 265/40/22 for non-winter and 265/50/20 for the winter.

There is nooooo comparison to winter tires no matter what you say. If you have lots of snow the best All Seasons are crap. Winters are the way to go.

All season are illegal in Quebec for the winter. All cars have to have winter approved tires from December 15 to April 15. A buddy of mine got a ticket on April 13th for putting on his 22's on 2 days too early. There was no snow on the ground, but the cop was an a**hole
