I noticed on my 2nd gen FX that the outside rear wheel wells are lined with carpet instead of being plastic lining like what most other cars use. I've noticed that newer model Mercedes like the E and S class are starting to use this carpet material in the rear wheel wells too. I was wondering what the purpose of it was for?
I heard from another source that it's put there for better sound deadening from the rear end, and it saves on weight. Don't know if it's true or not though.
