What type of modder are you?

Which type of ‘modder’ are you? I love how everyone here on IS has their own individual, stylized FX. Some are radical and some are subdued. There are several types of modders out there that chose certain categories:

  • Engine & Exhaust
  • Wheels & Suspension
  • Exterior
  • Interior
  • Electronics

Which category do you prefer and prioritize first? Which mods do you prioritize the least? Some modders are all into tuning their engines. Some modders love aftermarket wheels. Some modders try to do it all. Some are content with a completely stock FX as well. Personally, I could never leave my car stock. I love taking an already fantastic car like ours and making it even more personal to my taste. So after all the mods you have done to your FX, which category do you enjoy the most? Feel free to share your past cars and experiences too!

For my FX, I’m all about the wheels and suspension. Like a good pair of shoes, I think getting the perfect wheel and suspension setup is important to me. I also prioritize exterior too. It’s the first thing other people will see about the car, whether your driving or even parked. That’s why I spent the extra money on modding and upgrading my exterior to the 2006+ exterior. I had H&R springs and it was not low enough. The wheel gap drove me batty to the point I had to get coilovers. So you can say I’m definitely an all around exterior modder. My previous car was a 2000 Audi A6 4.2. My biggest mods were H&R coilovers and 19” RS4 wheels. It had a 300 hp V-8 so I never felt the need to mod the engine. If I kept the car long enough, I would’ve upgraded to the RS6 bumpers and side skirts. I’ve never been really big into electronics or sounds systems in general, so that would be my least prioritized mod.

So what do you guys like to mod? Share your experiences!

EVERYTHING!

Hard to prioritize! I have saved the wheels and custom body work for last but have everything else on your list, except for maybe extensive interior/upholstery work.

I have always been an all go kind of modder. With all my past cars, all the modifications had to improve power or handling and didn't care too much for looks. I've dealt with engine swaps, larger turbos, fuel management systems etc.. I didn't put a part in that looked worse than stock, but never modded anything just for looks. Now, older, career and married I'm not too heavy into all go mods. Most hp mods also add noise and I no longer want to deal with a daily driver that's noisy and requires a lot of upkeep. Now, I'll do some suspension, light engine, wheels and tires and some exterior mods. Nothing too crazy, but enough to satisfy the mod gene I was born with.

haha, need glasses. I first read the title as "What type of Moderator are you?"

Definitely wheels and suspension for me. No use having power if you can only go straight.

Budget friendly modder here... haha. Price is king!

However this mindset will probably change after finishing up college. Hoping to mod tc6/jumbo/hollywood style, teehee

^^ Don't you go to Cornell? Those student loans will have something to say lol. If you don't have any, then watch out, sky's the limit.

I'm usually all for suspension, wheels, tires, bracing and such. My car is set up for autoX for the most part and handling is key. Most of my mods on my car are performance orientated. Transmission is a big deal, good clutch and short shifter kit is also key. Brakes is another thing I'm doing. I'm doing a motor swap in the next year so not modding my current engine with the exception of exhaust and a custom HFC. I have done somethings to the cosmetic but not a lot cause I love how it looks right now. Gotta have good paint and gotta be in a good clean condition. ICE is the absolute lowest on priorities. Haha.

1. Power
2. Suspension
3. Visual

4. Audio/electronics (low on the list for me, BTDT)
Really more focused on the performance aspect of the vehicle but when you run out of stuff to do.....

For the FX I went with:

Engine upgrades/exhaust first.
Then went with suspension upgrades
and lastly was the tires/wheels.

On my other car, I went full sound system. Then upgraded the wheels/tires. My daily driver so I didn't do any upgrades to the engine.

I generally wont spend money on interior or exterior things

I am the wana be preformance modder on my FX50. But as there are no preformance mods for the FX50 I just play around with the electronics

ha, I'm a weakest link kind of modder... in other words it depends on the vehicle & what I see as it's weakest link, that'll be what I address first... now of course, given enough time & given a vehicle that is not exactly so sick that it needs nothing in the first place then yeah, eventually everything will get touched :smile (2):

first thing I go for though is usually electronics, I put a carpc in the fx before I even put plates on it... usually address the creature comforts & drivabilty stuff first & then aesthetics last...

Suspension/Wheels have first priority with me as I live in the mountains and enjoy flying thruogh the twisting turning mountain roads.
