What happens when there is no engine oil?

I just noticed oil leaking out of our mazda3 and we got our oil change done 2 days ago. I checked the oil level and it was just below where it's supposed to be.

I'm glad I found it since I know something bad will happen to the engine with no engine oil to lubricate it. I think I could have bought a new car through insurance claim if I didn't find it.

Are you sure it is a leak or just left over spilled oil from the oil change? I would keep track of the oil levels, if it doesn't change you might not have a leak.

I'm pretty sure it's a leak. I never have oil on the floor of my garage... let alone a puddle of it. The car only has 20k miles on it. Oil level is below where it should be and we just got oil change 2 days ago.

had a friend that had the same problem with his Mazda. From what i can remeber, the dealer changed the oil, but put the wrong filter on. I guess the filter was about the same size but not the same one for that car. The filter had a bad seal and that's were the oil was leaking from. He didn't notice untill the car crapped out on him. the dealer eventually put a brand new engine in the car, but i wouldn't wait for that to happen. If i were you i would take the car in and have them check to make sure there is no leak.

It would suck to have to be without a car because the dealer didn't do their job right. They fix it, but does it make it better?
