weird TPMS Issue please

Hi everyone a few weeks ago I started getting the tpms light. Starts when I start the car and then stays on during the whole time. I looked at the sensor readings and it shows the last one in the list as ** while showing the readings for the first three sensors perfectly fine. Having read the forum I found out the rear driver sensor is the bad sensor (4th one from the list).

So I figured one sensor is bad and went to a local shop that sells and installs used sensors. I had that sensor replaced and when I received the vehicle back all sensors were reporting the correct readings. I drove the vehicle for about 5 minutes and the same sensor (4th in the list) showed the ** again and the tpms light started blinking for a few seconds then went solid. After that time the tpms light would immediately turn on as it did before I had it replaced and stays on.

I made sure all tires have the correct pressure and drove for a few days and the last sensor never worked. I went back to the shop today and they replaced the sensor again and did the relearn. After 5 mins of driving again the same sensor went out. The shop says the sensor is good because it allows them to put the vehicle in relearn and said that maybe the vehicle computer is bad.

I wanted to know if anyone has any idea what's going on? I think the sensor is OK because he showed me while he put the car back into relearn and it accepted all 4 sensors.

The '07+ TPMS is weird and picky. My light has been on for 4 years now and I just stopped caring. Pretty much I went to aftermarket wheels and took car to dealer for reprogramming; they couldn't do it because they said that the offset of the wheels moved the sensors of the rear wheels so the monitor couldn't "see them". It was a very lame excuse; and looking back I think the battery on the rear sensors was bad (they were used OEM). Then I swapped tires a year later and a tire shop tried to reprogram. They could get the sensors to read, but one was sporadic off/on and could not get them to register. So I replaced all 4 w/ new aftermarket ones. At that point, they could get the sensors to read, but could not load them into the ECU w/ their tool. They couldn't figure out why. So I gave up.

2 years later, I swap to new wheels and tires and keep the sensors. New tire shop tries to reprogram them and can't. Claims that a rear sensor is dead so I replace that one and they try again. Now they still cannot get the sensors synced to the car, they read on their tool but will not load. They then send me to their sister shop down the road as they have a newer TPMS tool. They then spend over an hour trying to register my sensors and can't. They can't get the car out of learn mode or something.

So I've just given up for now. Maybe at some point I'll make it down to the dealership to see if they can do it, but I'm doubtful. 2 full sets of sensors plus another replacement and 3 separate shops and the light is still on. I've just learned to ignore it. FWIW, I tried the manual procedure as well which involves a piece of wire and paperclip and it didn't work either. Get it into learn mode, but it never completes the process.

I doubt the computer is bad, it would be strange that just the TPMS portion would fail.
