so i was looking thru infinitipartsusa and i found out that the VQ35DE is more expensive than the VK45 engine..

Engine, fx, awd - 3.5l - 3.5L
06-07 $8,286.39 $7,250.59

Engine, fx - 4.5l - 4.5L
03-07 $6,896.58 $6,120.71

my question is why? isnt the VK45 bigger and more powerful so why is it cheaper?

Not sure why the VK is cheaper new. It may be a less complicated motor to produce, but that's probably not true with 4 camshafts, forged steel connecting rods,molybdenum-coated pistons, microfinished crankshaft, and a variable flow induction. It was used as a race motor in the 350Z Super GT and also the GTR Super GT.

well the prices are straight from infinitipartsusa.. i doubt they made a mistake on that.. also i think since the VQ35DE is more popular(more on the road) they made it more expensive...

Maybe a supply and demand thing. You're right though, lots of vehicles withh varying versions of the VQ35.

Maybe some of these businessmen/business majors can explain that better. I am but a humble biologist/RT.

I must admit posting those specs about the VK made me feel good lol. I didn't even know about all those extras inside my motor hahahaha.

Just found this...

Usually increased production volume drives prices down, not up. I would be more inclined to believe that the VQ is more expensive than the VK due to a more complicated machining process or the use of more expensive materials. Especially considering they are manufactured in the same plant...

Ummmm.. From what I read A few post down.. The VK have better internals than the VQ.. So how is it that is cheaper again?

"Better" does not always equate to "more expensive". Either way it's just a guess. Maybe the VQ blocks are more labor intensive to produce, I don't know. I'm just saying that I doubt it's a randomly assigned markup based on popularity.

less demand on the motor... prices lower.
vq35 is used by many models, more likely to have something go wrong with it, in so many ppls hands. Demand keeps the price higher...
