Upgraded Foglights to HID - 3000k Morimoto

+1. That was my point. I went through so much trouble to hide the install of the HIDs on my bike. I took the nose off and hid the wiring inside the nose. I had to use a delay relay to delay the headlight from coming on immediately so the the bulb wouldn't come on as soon as I turned the key to the on position then flicker when I started the bike like the stock bulb. I hid the ballast all neat in the nose. Then the damn ballast went only 4 months later and I had to take the whole nose apart just to figure out what the problem was. What a headache that was. Turned me off to HIDs but I LOVED the way they looked and lit the road. It's not really a simple plug and play, especially if your anal about everything looking neat and giving the apperance that nothing aftermarket has been done in a sloppy manner.

Thinking about going back to HIDs for the bike and adding HIDs to the fogs on the FX. I would be three times smarter about making the components easily accessible though.

Are Morimoto's the way to go now? When I did my bike everyone was raving about the DDM Tuning kits which is what I used on my bike.

Did you guys get the 35watt or the 55watt? I am going to go with the 5000k to match headlights?

Go with the 35 cuz 55 will get too hot for the small fog light housing.

Really? From all the research I've done, I read that HID's only burn really hot when your first turn them on and they are drawing power to warm up to their actual color. After the initial warm up, everything that I have read says that they burn cooler than their equivalent wattage of halogen bulbs. Meaning that once it has finished warming up, a 55 watt HID is not burning anywhere near as hot as a 55 watt halogen bulb would be. As bright as some of these fog light pics I have seen on IS are, some people have to be using the 55 watt HID's.

I know some of the install questions are old but just as a reminder, you DO NOT have to remove the wheel moldings to change or install HID lights on the first or second gen. I've owned both and the process for reaching the fogs is similar. For me it was way easier on the second gen because once you pull down the bumper plastic there is way more room to work with your hands. Here is my DIY with video changing the fogs on a my second gen:

Hey guys I just finished installing HID 4300K headlights. I am about to do the fog lights on a 1st gen but I want to know what spot works best for the ballasts. I have the entire front bumper removed so everything is easily accessible. And also, no HID's on a 1st gen for sure isn't plug-n-go. It's easy but deff a little time consuming if you've never touched your car. I think it's the best first mod to do though by far. I enjoyed this mini project.

People with the 55s, how does the lighting compare to OEM? I know that the 35 are not better, but definitely comparable.

did this upgrade decided to use high power 4500LM EA. LED BULBS WITH NO BALLAST IN MY FOGS AS IT IS MUCH EASIER TO NOT HAVE TO MOUNT A BALLAST AND WORRY ABOUT GROUNDS... it is a simple plug and play if you can manage to get access to the fog light bulb housing that was the hardest part. end result is great super bright i will post images later. also the leds last 5x longer not wanting to crawl under my car ever year or so often to fix a Hid bulb or ballasts that has fried nor did i want the color fade over time that hids get. thanks for this post ! all your cars look sexy with the yellow fogs however i went with 6k pure white.. might swap the colors out later down the road for the lexus look..
