Troubleshooting welcome lights

2013 FX37 AWD
Hey IS,

I have a 2013 FX37, and I can't seem to get the welcome lights to work. I've followed the instructions in the manual for activating it, and I've even tried the method for the EX (putting window down), and various iterations from folks on other forums who have had issues.

Anyone here have trouble activating their welcome lights, and have any tips or advice? Every time I "activate" the welcome lights, I hear the chime noise, but when I test them (yes, my doors are locked), the welcome lights never activate. Pretty frustrating because I really liked this feature on my 2011 QX56.

Methods I've tried:

1. put ignition to ON (press start button twice), open driver side door, press & hold button on driver side door handle, wait for chime sound.
2. put ignition to ON (press start button twice), roll down window, open driver side door from the outside (through window), press & hold button on driver side door handle, wait for chime sound.
3. lock doors, unlock w/ intelligent key, put ignition to ON (press start button twice), open driver side door, press & hold button on driver side door handle, wait for chime sound.
4. lock doors, unlock button on door handle, put ignition to ON (press start button twice), open driver side door, press & hold button on driver side door handle, wait for chime sound.

Have you tried this?
For the Welcome Lighting:
1. Push ignition to On (press push button ignition twice with foot off brake)
2. Open driver side door
3. Within 20 seconds of turning car on, press the button on the driver's side outside door handle for 5 seconds.
4. Beep will confirm setting.

I just tried the above procedure on my 2013 FX37, and it worked. By the way, turn down the radio volume, so you can hear the beep. :smile (2):

Thanks Kanedean. Yes, I have tried the method you wrote. One question though, can you describe the "chime" or beep that you hear? I hear a fast "bee-bee-bee-beep....bee-bee-bee-beep" a few times, then it stops. Do you hear just 1 beep (short or long), or a series of beeps?

Thanks for your help!

I had my radio volume pretty loud. What I heard, or thought I heard was a continuous chime. It was beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep, until I let go of the outside door button.

By the way, in step two, it states to open the driver side door. So I just assume to close the door before starting with step one, which I did.
In step two, I just left the door open while pressing the outside door button.

I found another post which might help you troubleshoot (take note of the conditions):

To activate or deactivate the welcome light
function, perform the following procedure. Note
that the function is set to disabled as the
factory default setting.

1. Push the ignition switch to the ON position.
2. Open the driver's side door.
3. Push the door open request switch on the
driver's side door handle for more than 5
seconds with the driver's door open.
4. A chime sounds when the setting is completed.
Once the welcome light function is active, the
puddle light sA and the passenger cabin illumination
will illuminate when you approach the
vehicle with the Intelligent Key (within approximately
3.3 feet (1 m) of the antenna built inside
the door handles) and the following conditions
are met.
- All doors are closed and locked.
- The ignition switch is in the LOCK or OFF
position.
- The Intelligent Key is outside the vehicle.
- The puddle light operates within a set duration.
The welcome light function will be deactivated
automatically if it does not operate within a set
duration to prevent battery discharge. Note that
the duration is set to 14 days as the factory
default setting. An INFINITI dealer can customize
the set duration from 1 to 14 days. Contact
an INFINITI dealer for details.

Oh, so it was one long continuous beep sound? Mine has been more of like multiple fast short beeps, similar to the beeping noise when the door is open. Mine was also chiming until I let go of the driver side door handle button. And I have been trying this with the driver side door open.

It's really strange, I called the dealership today, and they said "it's an option on some cars, so maybe your car doesn't have it in the package," however I think he may have mistaken me for the optional welcome lights in the door sills, etc, which I actually have.

Just really strange that I can't get the welcome lights to work. The only other thing I can think of doing is to reset the ECU and try it all over again.

Take it into the dealer and let them program it, seems like to many steps to remember, I'll need to print that off and take the instructions out to the car.

Forgive my ignorance, are the welcome lights just the bright white lights under the rear view mirrors?

The welcome lights are the puddle lights (under the side view mirrors) as well as the interior cabin lights, that automatically turn on when your intelligent key is within 1m of your car.

This may sound random but try it with your headlights not on auto and see if it works..

I've been trying them with the headlights in the OFF position, but maybe messing with the headlights might do something. Thanks for the suggestion, I'll give it a shot.

Just turned my welcome lights on in my '12.....didnt even know I had 'em ;)

haha, nice! Now, if only mine would work...

Alright everyone, I was finally able to determine why my welcome lights weren't working. I've only owned this FX37 for about a month, so I've actually never used the key blade in my intelligent key fob.

I set up a service appointment to have the dealership check out why my welcome lights weren't working. When I went to lock my glovebox, I found out the original Infiniti dealership (where I purchased my FX), gave me the wrong key blade.

I proceeded to have the dealership troubleshoot my welcome lights, and when they couldn't get it to work on their end, they suggested that it might be related to the fact that my key blade is incorrect. The technician said that the key blades also have a chip to sync with our cars. Thankfully, my second/spare key had the correct blade, and my welcome lights respond to that key fob. Woohoo, problem solved!

The only downside now is that the dealership broke my cup holder assembly as they were troubleshooting my welcome lights :(
