Transmission thud P->R or D

2012 FX35, 3000 miles. Coming out of park and into either reverse or drive, I will get an occasional thud in the transmission. If I put it back into park and try it again, its smooth. Is this a known quirk to this transmission or do I have a problem on my hands? All other aspects of the transmission seem normal. Did a forum search and didn't come up with anything.

Thanks guys.

I never heard of that problem before. Mine sure doesn't do that.

Next time park on a slant and shift from park to drive it will clunk. Every car I ever had does this. Setting the park brake rids of it. Also not pushing the brake pedal down all the way when changing positions does this.

Happens to me when I'm parked on an incline or if my front wheels are smashed on the a curb. Parking brake is my theory.

Well that made me feel a little better, foot was to the floor on the brake. Dropped the wife off before I put the car into the garage, so I put in park. I usually use the parking brake, I'll keep an eye on it. Again, thanks.

Okay, no one said it was on a slope or incline. I can see that happening if you don't use your parking brake since it puts quite a load on your park mechanism in your transmission.
I still have not had that, but I always use my parking brake when parking on slopes for obvious reasons.

Yeah, just know how to use your parking brake.

Find spot on the incline.
Put in neutral.
Press parking brake.
Let go of foot brake.
Put in park.

Mine does the same , usually when I don't use the e brake , so D - N - brake - P , no thud but if I just D to P and when I'm leaving P to R I get the thud
