Guys I recently got my hands on a set of OEM 20" Rims for my 2006 Infiniti FX35 since for a while I always wanted to upgrade from my 18" rims. I believe the 20" fit more to FX personality and look so much better. I have the rims and now I'm looking to purchase the tires but OEM tires size is 265/50-20 but I want to go with 265/45-20 because I want that low profile look. Have any of you guys here at the forum have any of your FX'S on that tires size? Is it possible to run the 265/45-20 with the stock 20" rims? If some of you have that size how's the ride quality and what are the plus and minus of going with the 265/45-20 instead of the 265/50-20. Lastly any tires Brands and Models that you guys would recommend in this size?

Thanks,

Jose

The ride is already "rough" for many with 20" wheels so having a 45 sidewall will just add to that. It's not much difference but if you're on stock suspension height they might look a bit low.

I don't think you'd feel the difference. But i agree at stock height it would look like four bald tires.

Go with the OEM 20" size. There is already too much tire gap, you don't want to create more gap by going to lower profile tires.
Yokohama Parada Spec X is the recommended tire by many of the people here.

Don't run 295 on an 8" wheel (OEM size). The bulge would be really bad and I'm pretty sure 295 is not recommended for 8" wheels. It would squirm a lot too since the wheel is so narrow.

If you don't lower it, don't downsize the tires. It looks silly and makes your car look jacked up since 45 series tire is an inch shorter in diameter than 50 series. If you want the low profile look, lower your car first. Otherwise you sort of get the Porsche Cayenne look where there's this giant SUV body over tiny wheels and tires.

Some people here are running 275 45 20 on stock 20 inch if you wanna give that try. If you lower your car 45 profile will still look okay. I recommend Hankook Ventus St. Love the tread pattern and very good tire for all season

Some pictures of a 265/45R20 tire on stock height:

This ideea is in my head for a couple of weeks (getting smaller tires like 265/45 in front and 295/40 in the back). Do you guys think it will look good on the 2nd gen if i am lowered only on H&R springs? the difference in wheel gap is only 0.6 inches from the stock 265/50 but i am not yet convinced how it will look.
Anyway for the OP and anyone who is thinking about doing the same thing should consider the weight savings on the tires (my advans st at 265/50R20 are weighing 36 lbs/tire where a 265/45R20 is rated anywhere between 30-32 lbs) which translates to at least 16 lbs of unsprung weight.

I'm running stock tire size 265-50-20 and wouldn't want to get a lower profile tire unless I had bigger wheels. Stick with the stock size and lower it. I'm also using Nitto NT421q tires. Love them so far

Just voted so I can see the poll results on this. Didn't understand what it was all about. Ha ha
