Tire size and brand recommendation for 22" wheels

I can't help much on the size, but I will say this! I have ran both the Hankook's and the Yoko's (which is what is currently on my car). IMHO the kooks are a FAR better tire in regards to performance, quietness and look a hell of allot better! With the kooks I felt allot more confident when hitting the twisties hard over the Yoko's. The Kooks I could not even make them squeal regardless of how hard I cornered, the Yoko's take little to no effort to squeal around the corners. My ONLY complaint with the Kooks is they seemed allot harder to balance! As far as pricing, go to discount tires direct, ask for Wyatt and he will fix you up! You CANNOT beat their prices as they offer free shipping and in most cases they will be on your doorstep in 2 days. Also they offer a no BS replacement warranty that replaces blowouts, etc. unlike tire rack and the others, with discount you do not have to send the old tire back and argue about tread depth and all that crap. Simply call them, they run your credit card for $20.00 for the replacement warranty on your new tire and it's on your doorstep in 2 days. I am no way affiliated with Discount tire but I will not buy tires anywhere else! Good luck!

I am in agreement with you regarding discounttire. My last 6 sets of tires have been from them and have been pleased.
I believe the Hankooks are discontinued for 22's. Please correct me if I am wrong

A quick search of 22 inch Hankook tires shows that Amazon has some, look at the sizes maybe one will work for you.

right it looks like its oddball sizes for 22 x 10.5 wheels. The 305 might be to big ? and the 45 might be to high profile.

265/35R22 XL
265/40R22 XL
305/40R22 XL
275/45R22 XL
285/45R22 XL

Oh well, I didn't look in great detail i guess it was wishful thinking on my end. Good luck with your search.

I was one of the first to run the Nexxen 285/35/22's and love them.I was going to buy the parada's but my wheel guy said the parada's wear fast and the Nexxens didn't. No complaints from o farme s

So I have it down to 2 tires 285/40R22 either the Falken Ziex S-TZ05 or Nitto NT420S
My local Discount tire will do either of them about $800 a set so price is not a factor.

Falken Ziex S-TZ05
50,000 Miles 460AA Speed rating H

Nitto NT420S
No mileage warranty 420AA Speed rating V

What do you guys think ? The Falkens have better warranty and longevity. The Nittos look better and would handle a bit better?
I am leaning toward the Nittos for the review they get over the Falkens but not sure about road noise. The guy at discount tire thinks they won't be to bad.
I have my wheels coming in next week need to make a choice pretty quick. Any help is appreciated !!!

Did quite bit reading on reviews for the 2 tires. Looks like Nittos get slightly better reviews. I was concerned about noise on Nittos but looks like the Falkens get more complaints about noise then the Nittos. I was also concerned about Nitto's treadlife but looks like most people are getting 40-60K miles on set, not bad. Probably will order up the Nitto's tomorrow unless someone convince me otherwise , its a tough choice as both seem like good tires.

So as an update: 2010 FX35 with 22 x 10.5 New Forgestar F14 +32 offset.

I first got the Nitto 420S installed. Great smooth ride and handled well but just very noisy at +50Mph.
DiscountTire recommended the Toyo Proxies ST II which are on the car now. Much quieter and great looking tread
But at 40 to 60 Mph there is vibration in the car, the gas pedal and brake pedal when the car is moving forward (no brakes being used). Looks like someone with a 1st gen FX had exact same issue which leads me to believe its the tires design

Discount tire recommended the Falken ZIEX S/TZ05 which I will get installed next week. I am hoping these will be quieter than the last 2 tires I got put on and not have any vibration or noisy issues.

Hopefully the Falkens work out my last 2 choices for 285/40R22 tires are the Yokohama Parada SpecX and the Nankang SP-7 from DiscountTire.

Its been a hassle going back and forth to the tire place but Discount tire has been really good and making sure I am happy.
They even told me if I hate the Falkens to bring them back. If I do that I may just go back to the Yokohama's and call it a day.
I had the Yokohama's on my 1st gen FX with 22 and the tires were quiet and comfortable. I just hated that the tread wore way to fast and that once the tires wore down the tread pattern pulled with every line in the road. So if your not holding on to the steering wheel you may fly off the road.

Crossing my fingers on the Falkens :nailbiting::nailbiting:

That is one sexy rim you have there. A cousin of mine bought the same size of rims bought a 285/35 series, brand was Nitto tires. He has a 1 inch drop lowering springs and he claims its a perfect fit with no rubbing issue at all.

Thanks twoplayer if I ever deciede to lower the car I will keep that in mind

So, I have the Falken ZIEX S/TZ05 TIRE 285/40R22 on for few weeks and driven them in dry and wet. Can overall say its a very good tire. Much quieter than both Nitto 420s and Toyo STII, no steering wheel shakes no weird pulling like the Yoko Parada. So far happy with them and a bonus has 50K mileage warranty. Will report back in few more weeks for those following. Feel free to post any questions.

So what's the latest on the Falkens? I'm also in need of new tires, and with the Parada and Hankook Ventus both discontinued trying to find the next best option.... Would be interested on your take now that you've had these for a while.

thanks!

Overall and for the price they are good. They are much quieter than the Nitto 420s and Toyo STII which are the other 2 tires I tried on the same car and wheels. Only complaint is that I get steering wheel shakes at some various MPH and first few miles of driving after the car has sat overnight. Seems to be the same occurrence with any tire I get from my local Discount tire, even have the issue with my G37 that has completely different wheels and tires on the,. I took the car back several times now and they even road force balanced them. I contacted Falken and they recommended the PSI to be set at 34 for my setup. Haven't had the chance to try different PSI to see if the issue goes away. Also needed to check my alignment but haven't had the time. I'd say for the price and warranty they come with its a good choice. Don't expect them to handle like the Yokohama though its close but not as tight grip.
