Timing chain

What's up guys. I got a quick question. Did anyone ever replace their timing chain and guides. I know they really don't have to get replaced but did anyone every have one go bad on them.

A time chain is definitely better. Not only will it last longer, but if a chain breaks it breaks and that's all that happens; you have to repair it. When a belt breaks you run the risk of causing damage to the surrounding areas of your car.

If ur talking about interference and non interference motors then you are incorrect. Pending on design of motor, when a belt/ chain breaks it could destroy the engine, IE piston hits valve. That is a interference motor. It could be chain or belt driven.

Originally a belt driven motor was quieter compared to a chain. Chains often last 500k or life of car compared to belts that need replacement at 60-105k. Some timing belts are quick and easy to do I rather prefer belts ( most sohc 4 cylinder) and some I hate with a passion (vw/Audi v6 motors). There is no better, its a trade off. Kinda like going v6 vs v8.

I'm taking a guess to as if that's what's causing the whining noise on my car.

YouTube some timing chain guide rattles. Motors like a ka24de, sr20de or the motor in the first gen q45. See if those noise match up with yours. Its a plastic and metal guide, it could be worn down rather.

It is at start up only or always there?

Check your pulleys. Either idler pulleys( I don't think fx35 motors have them) and all the others. They go out from time to time. I had a bad idler pulley in my g35 at 50k. I just deleted it.

I had a whining noise on my old Chevy impala 2001 and It was the tranny. Remove the belt from the engine and start the car if you still have the whining then its coming from the tranny

I removed the belts n cranked the car it's still making the noise. I doubt it's my tranny or engine. The car runs fine all fluid are clean and up to there level

If you remove the belt and still getting the whining and most likely it should be the tranny because remember by removing the belt you just eliminated everything that sits on the engine

But everything is working fine. Tranny shifts fine and smooth though the noise is a come and go type of thing. It doesn't do it when it starts up about 15 min after the engine got warmed up. It happens mostly at idle it could be happening when driving but I can't hear it. It'll come on and then it'll go away

Just a thought could it be a bent valve or something ? I thin i seen a similar case with a bent valve ....... I dont mean to have u worry mike hope all is well man .....
