Throttle Body Service - 32K Miles ?

Hey Guys,

Haven't been around lately , still have my 2012 FX35 , the other day my battery needed a boost and right after the boost I got the CE light on, the dealer "serviced" the battery (charged it) and said it was OK , however they said the CE light is on because I need "throttle body service" for like $400 (Canada)

I found this odd, what I found even more odd is that it is not covered under warranty ? I checked my manual, it says specifically throttle body is covered under the powertrain warranty,
so why should I pay to have it "serviced" ? I have bumper to bumper warranty on the car. I also heard that this service is usually a scam by a dealer that's why they can't bill it back to the manufacturer under standard warranty billing. Anyway... I didn't do it, I am thinking of calling Infiniti HQ but just wanted to get some feedback here if possible.

Better question. How exactly do you service a TB?

If they mean service as in clean it out, then I really want to try some of the meds they are on for trying to charge you $400 to clean out your TB.

If they mean service as in replace, well then that's not really servicing anything, the TB are a non wear item of the car, and they should be good for the life of the vehicle. They should definitely be covered by warranty if a 3 year old vehicle has busted TB's.

What was the code? Did they reset the ecu after they changed the battery?

They wouldn't tell me the code. And IDK if they reset the ECU but they didn't change the battery , just hooked it up to a charger.

Yeah I think this stinks, what is even funnier, CE light is off now even though they didn't do anything. That's exactly what I asked them but they said "it's part of standard maintenance" . Uh really ? I've owned 8+ cars , most of them leased new and I never came across this. I should be pretty firm , if they insist it needs to be serviced, the warranty should cover it.

Like Meme said, i would ask them what they mean by serviced. Dealerships are shady, they told me i needed a new ecu when all i needed was a couple coil packs. Question them and advise them what Meme said

dealer did it for me took about 45 min. I didn't ask them to, but it was part of the 3x,000 mile service apparently so was included in that. You can easily do it yourself just be wary of misaligning the TB plate itself aka don't let it snap back into position, you will mess it up.

What did they do exactly? Clean them out?

Yeah, that's what the throttle body service basically is. They clean them out, make sure the butterfly valves are operating / aligned correctly. I think that is it.
I watched the guy do part of it.

Get an independent reading on the code from a local shop. Any Autozone stores in the US will run diagnostics and pull the error code for free. Not sure if this applies to Canada.
