Test drive FX30d

Its like ppl who buy a 70K Mercedes... and its a diesel (ex. GL320) never understand their logic. If you have 70K to spend on a vehicle fuel economy should not be the priority.

There's more to fuel economy than saving money. Vehicles that are more fuel efficient are better for the environment and require fuel less often. Aside from that, some people prefer the characteristics of diesel engines. (Low revs, high torque, even the sound...)

I really dislike the diesel engine sound. To my ears it sounds like the engine is about to fall apart.

Anyway you will see more in Europe than in the US. I think it will be a family car type. Though i don't dig it it will be good for Infiniti image and for the sales. Maybe they should have stick only to hybridis like the Lexus RX.
Also i don't think this engine represents the brand or the soul of an Infiniti.

Im 99% sure this car wont ever show up in the US. The only reason Infiniti did this is to please there European cliental.

europe has a whole infrastructure setup for diesel distribution sorta like wat usa has for gasoline, i actually like the 30d for its strong points (mpg, high torque, clean burning). but how does it drive, is it fun? we're waitin for your review!

BODY
New FX with diesel engine looks the same like his benzine bros with one exception – the badge.

INTERIOR

When we look at dash of new FX we can see other word. ( other from I gen). Modern dash, paddle shifters, gear box with Sport option and... working navi with maps of Europe :)

START

After pressing START button you can hear ... nothing. No typical for diesel engine noises and vibrations made by engine and transferred on the body. Nothing even after acceleration. Must admit that the engineers take care for keep it quiet!

Driving

New 7 shift gear box allows the engine turn to 3,5 RPMs and change the gear. After switching to Sport mode, the car has better reaction accelerator it turns to 4-4,5 RPMs. It could go higher but waist gate does his work.
Like all diesel engine FX30d has little turbo lag (but not so big) and huge torque helps you drive confidently.

ECOnomy

The biggest advantage of new FX30d is consumption. - 25-28 MPG on Dieslel fuel is very good result, especially if we consider the capacity of engine (3 l.). We get this result during short 15 min trip but I'm sure we could get it better on the highway!

GADGETS

Because I'm not familiar with II gen of INFINITI FX , I can only mark a few interesting issues:
IBA ( Intelligent Brake Assist), mentioned paddle shifters and SPORT mode ( I really miss it in my FX).

Here is a part that is not relevant for you.
This car in Europe will cost around 63 000 EUR ( around 80 000 USD!) and its more expensive than FX37s only for 100 EUR ( yeah hundred!). For American it may sound like a joke but here in Europe, INFINITI is for wealthy people.

My conclusion: I'm falling in love in FX50s and FX30d S will never take this place in my heart.

Any chance Infiniti will bring this to North America?

I think these things would sell in Canada as the VW diesels to very well up here.

Nice to see a diesel in an Infiniti hopefully they bring them on this side of the pond soon.

put 400 lbs of torque from a diesel engine with super quiet interior, great gas mileage and a sexy body...now what else do the Europeans want?

I love the sound of diesel engines. They just sound more aggressive and tough, IMO. It might not sound right in an FX, though. I really want a diesel F-250.
