Tail light Tints

I'm looking to get my tail light's tinted and was wondering what % recommended to get them done. I have a twilight blue stock M35X and am starting to think about some basic mods like getting black rims and was wondering how it would look with the tail lights tinted as well. I'm not trying to make it look ricey lol
 
I think tinted tails will look good on your car with the mods you have planned. For the percentage, I'm not sure. When I got mine tinted on my truck, I took them to a paint & body shop and had them sprayed with black paint broken down w/clear and it came out really good. They were able to mix is so that tint looked really good, but the brake lights and turn signals were still clearly visible. I always suggest the same process to others. I'll post pics.
 
Here are better pix of mine. They are vinyl and not tint film Vinyl lets the light through much better. In fact, you can't even tell I have tinted tails at night:

As a reference to the visibility of the lights, the parking lights and not the brakes are actually on in the "after" pic. They are also not LEDs and the picture was taken in the afternoon sun. The CHMSL was tinted as well and is off in the pic so you can see just how dark they appeared with the lights off.

Hopefully this gives you a good idea of what to expect.
 
The tails look great Mongolian. I'm going to have to look into vinyl's because all my friends have theirs painted. Thanks for the pics STS I guess I'll take a ride to a shop and see what they offer
 
i agree. very nice Mongolian.

any tips on vinyl to use? i'd like to do the front bumper side markers on my M.
 
I'm not quite sure what type of vinyl used, but my tint guy said the vinyl he used is capable to letting more light through than others. It cost me $60 to do it.
 
Thanks a lot guys any pictures will be appreciated but I'm going to give it a week or two and as soon as classes are over I'll get on it
 
Just installed the vinyl today...took some pictures but it was too dark out so they didn't come out good...I'll take more tomorrow and post....totally changes the look of the car. I love it. Best 13 dollars I spent on styling in my life!
 
It is very dark...flows seamlessly with the paint...I'm amazed how well the brake light shines right through. At night you can't even tell they are blacked out at all.
