Tail Light Options?

Being a new FX owner ('03 FX45) I'm not familiar with the factory tail light jargon. I see factory smoke and sport tail light upgrades (2006 and later) to replace my red ones. Are the sport and factory smoke the same? I'd also like to tint my tail lights with paint. Should I go ahead and have my red ones sprayed or should I first change to the new clear/sport style and have those sprayed? Most other vehicles that have redlights tinted look very, very dark. I don't want to waste money on changing lights if it won't make a difference. What are the forum thoughts?

red tails are red, tint them paint them break them, burn them, they'll still be red.
sport ones are smoked tails, clear look, you might be able to darken them up.
you can change them for looks. tinting is difficult, professional painting is more appropriate. too many threads on this subject here already.

Thanks. That is pretty much what I figured. I'll spring for the Sport ones and get them professionally sprayed. I had an Audi TT where I applied a custom cut tinted film to the tail lights and it looked sorta lame, but then again the car was lame.
