Just talked with customer service and they tell me that the Stage 3 Intercooled supercharger works better without stillen headers (SC was designed to work on a stock system). Though they did say the exhaust would be an improvement. Anybody have a different experience with the S3 SC?

Also, on a stock engine what kind of hp does the SC put out? They claim 400, but I have heard opinions to the contrary. My understanding was that stock was around 265. Can somebody set a brotha straight!?!?

IMO, skip stage 3 and go straight to stage 4. Dont' get headers and just stick with a cat back system.

With headers you may lose some back pressure which would lower the boost level the SC can reach.

I would skip stage 3, it adds boost without altering fuel or timing vs stage 2.

I have not seen a Stillen put down more than 350 to the wheel on a G/Z/FX. Stock to the wheels depending on the dyno is about 220-235ish. Some do better than this range but not many do worse than this range.

The Stillen is not a high hp gainer, it is an instant tq type FI.

Sure even more that 400 but not at the crank. But you only see about >350 WHP at the Wheels, if that.

What rookie said is absolutely true.

I have DC headers and Stillen S-4. You do gain some of the what you loose back with S-4. My suggestion, LOOK INTO TWIN TURBO.

Look at some of the posts and check out what people are driving. Ask more questions, listen, learn, and then make up your mind.

This thread set me on a path. I definitely agree about the TT - seems like close to the same amount of money (as a SC) for so much more.

I've been gradually prepping for FI and learning a ton along the way. Talked with SGP racing in Houston and T1 Racing Development outside of Dallas. Both have done the JWT TT on an FX. I knew of one. Didn't know there was two in Texas.

I've done pretty much all the NA mod installation myself to this point, but when I get to upgrading the transmission TC & VB, that's a shop job. I'll probably do oil & transmission cooling, springs and brakes before sending my baby in for surgery.

As of right now, I'm planning on a JWT TT, scrapping the stock ECU and going with a standalone Pro EFI. That ECU is SO overkill, it has room for expansion and having fun. I could run separate maps depending on my application, plus play around with everything electric in the car (15mph = doors lock, honk horn = all lights flash three times, push in cigarette lighter = all windows go down 1 inch, whatever you can dream up). You can add additional sensors for anything (tire pressure sensor paired with an on board compressor that responds to your setting). Hooking up a laptop to change control or settings and self tuning would be the ultimate goal - but not without adequate education, of course! Learning how to use that thing will be projects enough for the next couple of years. If you were so inclined, you could dream up some James Bond type gadgets in the car. :ever:

I'd also like to get into showing the car. If anybody has done or does currently do this - I'd love to talk. I'd like to know more about the show culture - sponsorship, benefits demands and such. I could see this becoming a serious hobby. And it's all inspired by the FX. Not sure I'd want to do it to any other car. Haven't so far this lifetime...

T1 - apparently pretty established and solid. Contact is Tony Palo. He was at the TX2K9 meet this past weekend and we know a guy I work with. This guy is a serious Supra guy and can't say enough about Tony. Says everything he puts out is gold.

I'm definitely going to visit and meet before I decide, but there are not so many options around here.

Found these:

Could be. We are talking about doing the JWT TT install this summer - maybe July. Still have the Transmission work to do - and that will probably be at SGP. Don't know of any other shops to get the TC and VB done - and SGP actually has their own VB upgrade. Actually looks more solid than the Stillen VB, but I don't know the comparison data or performance specs.

Check my350z to hear about SGP and tranny work...
Let me know when you are up here for the install and I will come check it out.

Yeah, maybe we can have Tony do both of our 4 point ladder braces...

I get up to Killeen a few times a year - plenty of friends in Austin too. I'll let you know.

After talking with T1 race development for a few weeks, things have stalled. Not sure if Tony is too busy, forgot about me, or doesn't want the project. I wrote him back asking what was up and didn't get an answer, so I have sort of written him off.

Got some other recommendations, including one from Chinke82 who actually used a local shop north of Houston. In addition, I have been hearing more about a local place called, "Unleashed motorsports", and I have been talking to them about doing my transmission upgrades. Level Ten components, and prices are not bad: here's the quote:

Valvebody $799
Torque Converter $700
Transmission Cooler $150
Labor $550 (if all installed together and includes fluid)

I have asked for part numbers/model numbers to make sure these are the parts I want, and to bounce them off of you guys here on the site.

They have also done a G35 TT (Greddy) and could apply some of what they learned. But it would be an exploration if I decided to go here for the Turbo work. Not completely sold on that yet - will probably depend on how well they do with the transmission work - and how much confidence they give me. At the top of the list is also "Secret Services" here in Houston. Had preliminary talks with them as well and will make a decision when it comes time.

Just got this PM on my350z.com. I was doing some research on shops for you a couple weeks ago.

"Are you still looking for transmission work. I talked to the guy from Unleashed and supposedly has a guy from dallas wanting to bring in his 350z and another guy with an fx from houston dropping his off next week getting a vb., converter and cooler for a very good price. I know its a drive but I think it is worth it for the price and quality of work.
his name is jody and his number is 832-477-4843."

I told him I was just checking up for someone, and that it was the FX guy.

I have it all locked down now, dropping the car off soon. Decided to go a slightly different route - a Transgo Shift Kit (RE5RO5A-HD2) and custom Torque Converter, done locally by a shop called Circle D here in Houston. Will also get the bar/plate transmission cooler.

It's coming at a good time because I need to travel for a couple weeks. Plan is to drop it off the same day I hit the airport, and pick it up the day I get back. Beats parking it at the airport for two weeks!

One step closer to FI...
