Hey all,
I have read several topics regarding the known issues on these column adjustment motors, including there has been a recall on them to get them replaced under warranty at the time.
These days are long gone, my telescopic motor makes a ratcheting noise when trying to operate and does not extend/retract so i am quite sure that the gears are wasted.
If i help it a bit with pulling/pushing it does move bit, tilt function still works fine.
Since i own the car (2015) the automatic comfort function of retracting steering wheel and seat on entry/exit has never worked, later on i found through the OBD that the telescopic sensor is faulty.
That's where i left it at that time, never really bothered as i did not require any adjustments and kinda forgot about the easy entry/exit function. (i also had it in my FX35 which i had before this one)
Now, as the wife also randomly started using the car the issue came back to my mind and now i want to seek for how to fix this.
So looking for a solution i found that Infiniti only offers a complete column assembly ($$$) instead of loose motors and other required components.
Did any of you guys ever found a solution and a source of buying just a motor/gearbox assembly?
What's the odds, would the sensor be ok and just the motor is causing the fault code?
My thinking is that the sensor is giving a fault because it is not detecting any movement when the motor is operated, the sensor might be ok.
The only option (local here in Europe) i found so far is a used complete column assembly which includes all motors and sensors and all other bits and pieces. (just as Infiniti would sell you a new one.)
I just wonder would there be any differences between the model years or could i get any FX50/QX70 assembly?
This column assembly i came across could be had for around $200-$250 shipped, which i think would be a reasonable deal. (not sure but i believe it is a 2014 model column)
Kinda hoping Infiniti solved the issues from a certain year so buying a used assembly gives me the right/upgraded parts.
My car is a '09 FX50S, just shy of 40k miles.
Take the shot and get a used assembly, or (if possible) get a new motor/gearbox assembly?
Any suggestions and/or tips are highly appreciated!
