Startup Issues

Saw this on an earlier post, but never really got a straightforward opinion.
Anyway, the FX runs great and starts everyday. Although, yesterday, I tried to start it up, and i got nothing. After some gas-tapping, I finally got er going. But, even then, the engine was idling super high...and I had to rev it a little to calm it down. (reminded me of my buddy's ol 65' impala lol)
This was just really weird to me. Me battery is less than a year old, so i doubt its that.
My second thought was fuel pump or something of that nature. I'm not completely sure, so If I could get some feedback, that'd be great.

Thanks Guys

Mine acts funky during the winter too. It starts and dies some mornings. It only happens after sitting for the night. I have not done anything about it. It may be your case, but I have also herd that it is warmer in SF during the winter than during the summer...

Haha yes "The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco..."...Mark Twain.

Vice versa in the winter?? lol

But no, I park in the garage which is like 50ish degrees---shouldn't make a difference

I get the issue in the garage sometimes, it's usually around 55 in there. I remember I was at the dealer and had pulled it in, and when the guy went to start it again it wouldn't start the first time, so it's not just a sitting issue. I get the barely starts and RPM's jump all around. One punch of the gas and it's fine, but that makes quite a ruckus in a parking garage. :smile (2):

Idle control valve? That can lead to a fluctuating idle until the car warms up. When you first crank the car, it's in open loop mode and not reading the O2 sensors, just MAF and RPM so the engine can't adjust the fuel flow to compensate for any issues. The idle control valve lets air bypass in order to keep things in order. If it's damaged or clogged up, you can have a fluctuating idle. A lot of times it won't throw a code even if there's an issue. Once the car warms up, no issues.
