Stall after cold start

So lately is been cold in MA. The past few really cold mornings, after starting up idle seems fine but as soon as I've put it in drive the engine stalls out. It will immediately fire back up and not stall. This has only happened on the first cold start of the day a few times, after driving even short distances it hasn't happened again till the next cold morning start. Anyone have any ideas on what the problem could be?

Hello DatMan,

I was wondering if you ever found a fix to your issue. I just started getting the same issues from my 2013 FX50.

I had a similar issue with my old EX35, only it would occasionally stall right after I started it. I fixed this by cleaning both throttle bodies. Just be careful with moving the butterfly plates. If you have a high idle afterwards, you will have to do a throttle relearn procedure. Luckily I didn't have to because I read it can be a pain to do.

Thank You Nick,

First of all, I jealous that you scored a 2014 QX70 5.0. I found my 2013 FX50S about two years ago with only 14,000 miles on it. I could not pass it up but I was really looking for the 2014. I went out and bought the throttle body cleaner and MAF sensor cleaner (I figured I would do both at the same time). I also heard that the relearn was a PITA so I'm hoping I do not need to do that. Do you have any tips on moving the butterfly valves? I'm assuming I just move them slowly, clean around them then slowly put them back to where they were? I watched a YouTube video on it and it looked like the guy had no problem moving them and cleaning it.

Thank You for your help and advice.

Hey Brian,
Thanks, I think I got real lucky finding this beast! The 5.0 is so smooth and addicting, not like my 5.4 F150!
I used two youtube videos to do the work. First, I unscrewed them from the intake, but left the electrical connectors plugged in, and placed them on a rag. I sprayed them and let the cleaner do most of the work, wiped the inside and the valves while holding the butterflies closed the whole time(I did this a few times). I sprayed a rag and cleaned the inside the intake as much as possible. I then screwed them back on and followed this youtube video to keep the butterfly valves open and clean the most important area where the valves meet the inside of the throttle body.
I don't know if the video is the right way to do it, but it worked for me. I also cleaned the MAF sensors.
Hope this helps and keep us posted on the results!

Oh, if it wasn't clear you need someone to hold the accelerator down while doing the second part of the cleaning. Cheers!

Thank You Nick for the help with this. As soon as the weather gets a little warmer here, I will attempt this job. I'll let you know of the results.
