Do any of you have experience with repair small rust spots? I just noticed a really small rust spot on the top of the FX and not too comfortable with just using touch up over that spot.

I was thinking of using 400-600 grit sandpaper to sand off the rust, and just paint over with touch up.....do you think that's enough?

I guess the proper way is to sand off that spot, then apply a layer of primer, let that dry...then a layer of touch up paint

Well, luckily that small rust spot is on the roof so not visible......but the idea of rust spreading like cancer is scary.

I just bought this product called "rust fix" by Duplicolor.....supposedly the contents will "eat" the rust and turn it into a protective black coating....and since this is on the top of the car, maybe I can just spray this on and leave it alone.........like a scar like no one can see.

Maybe then cover the duplicolor with factory touch up paint. I imagine something chipped or ate the clear and paint off of that spot causing it to rust. I wouldn't worry too much about it spreading once it is cleaned up.

Don't sand it with any sand paper, and then put touch up.
It will look worse than it is now.
I suggest getting it fixed (repainted) Let the body shop handle it ASAP.

oh man, body shop? I can't imagine paying $100+ for a very small rust spot on the top of the car. If it were visible like somewhere on the hood or door, then body shop would be best......

I'll try out the duplicolor rust fix and let you guys know how it works. Thanks!

Oh yeah, i forgot to update on this! I sanded off the rust until metal was showing, then I sprayed the paint and it did exactly as described. It turned the clean metal into a black looking primer.......then I used touch up paint to paint over.....

Good thing the rust was on top of the car because the spot is very obvious....and UGLY
