Anyone else hearing Spark Knock (pinging) when driving their FX50?Really started to notice this pinging when the weather turned milder and I began driving with the windows down, about 2 months ago.
I now have about 4500 miles on my FX50S and have used only premium fuel from Sunoco,Amoco and Chevron, all 93 octane.
Most notable between 1500 and 2000 RPM in 3rd and 4th gears but sometimes in higher RPMs when accelerating.
There have been no fault codes shown at all and my local dealer performed a full diagnostic check on the car and nothing is out of the ordinary, nor are there any sevice bulletins addressing this issue.
Any comments or suggestions appreciated.

Thanks.

Ironman,

I accidentally ran nearly a whole tank of 85 octane through my '09 FX50 early this fall, and then drove it to my cabin in the mountains of Colorado. I listened and fretted hard the whole time (refilled with our premium, which is only 91, at about a quarter tank), but never heard/felt any issues.

I'd definitely get yours back to the dealer right away!

Bring it back to the dealer. If nothing else, at least its documented that it was a concern at this particular date and mileage.

This may sound wierd to you but but. Spark knock could be a broken spark plug. The porcelin top (white part of the spark plug) could be broken.

Second, from what your describing it could also be a coil pack starting to go bad. I've seen cases where they go bad or start to go bad and not throw codes. Had a friend where one of his coil packs made his car have a rough idle when the engine was warm. When cold ran fine.

Goodluck to you and your situation.

I hear very feint knocking in my FX50. It only happens when the rpms are very low (<1000). It bothered me at first, but it happens very infrequently so i'm not too worried about it yet..

I think it's the fuel injectors you hear firing...you can hear a new Lexus or other Infiniti's making the same faint noise, especially if you put your ear by the front wheel well.

No this does it while driving. Its a metallic rattle when accelerating. Definately spark knock I'm hearing as I was use to the sound on my previous ride lol.

hmmm, haven't heard that before then! :( I hear a slight pinging noise from wheel well and been told that is normal though...you can hear it more through drive thoughts due to the echoing.

Oh that sound your hearing is from the VVEL tech. Lots of G37 guys have that same noise too. Only way to quiet it down is to use the Nissan ester oil
