I know that there are a couple of folks on the forum that have installed sound deadening materials and I'm curious about how it turned out in the end. Did it make a massive difference or was it slightly noticeable?

Thumbs up or down?

I have a first gen, but results should be similar. I installed sound deadening over a significant part of the car, only part I didn't do was the roof. It made a noticeable difference, but it's not night and day. Helps a lot with road noise, not too much with exhaust.

Same here - did about 75% of my interior but no roof.

Absolutely noticable in my case - both more quiet in the cabin and better sound out of my stereo! After I did dynamat in this car I vowed to do it to every car I owned since then. So far I've done it twice more and plan to keep it going with future purchases.

Massive improvement.

I've done everything but the roof, which will be done fairly soon.

You want to do deadener, then mlv/ccf over that for the maximum effect.

Also be sure to pay special attention to the rear bumper under the plastic panel (where the cargo hatch closes). The bumper and that area let in a lot of sound. The rear of the car, under the spare tire well and bumper, are the noisiest parts of the car imo.

Lastly when you do the doors be sure to have a friend handy and take off the door plate (front doors) to deaden the outside door skin.

Lot's to do but totally worth it.

Awesome. Did you also do the mlv/ccf combo with the dynamat? I know the material is fairly heavy, so how much weight do think you've added to the vehicle?

Sound deadening material such as dynamat. Pretty involved project that can get $$$$

I didn't use Dynamat specifically (used GT Mat) but yeah, I did mat + MLV/CLV combined for the floors. For the rear deck I used mat+CLV only (since the sub/amp enclosure/floor covers that, mlv would have been overkill. For the doors I used mat (outer layer) and mat+clv for the inner layer. Ceiling will likely just get the mat treatment.

Not sure on the weight increase. There's some but I don't think we'd ever notice it in our vehicles ;)

The more you put on there the more it'll weigh i gues that theory seems logic but in the end it will always be worth it IMO. I did the roof but can't say if there is any additional difference. I had my headliner out due to a paintjob so was easy reach at that time. Butt loved the effect it also gave to the whole car.

Reviving this thread. Where did you guys get the clv & mlv or is it the same? Im trying to do undercoat on my car on the fender wells to reduce road noise & possibly rust & i would also like to do some sound proofing on the inside aswell
