Sold FX

I traded my FX45 back to Carmax after it was found to have a bad bearing in the trans. I know I wasn't here long, but I enjoyed this forum and spend ALOT of time browsing the different posts. I have a couple of leftover items that I did not get to install that I'll put in the for sale section. Here's a picture of its replacement. 08 BMW 550I.90536B3E-6306-4E6C-A7A8-7EDFBF4F1A24.jpg

Always sad to see a fx'er sell, but it looks like you have a nice v8 replacement for the 45. Enjoy!

nice bmw 550i and loving those wheels, guess your 90 days were up with carmax?

hope u stick around and show us your future mods on the bmw.

Thanks, it definitely was a fun ride. The 360hp/360tq of the 550I will help me with my acceleration addiction, but I ended up buying an old Dodge Ram to replace its towing abilities.

I like the color!

How did you know it was a bearing inside unless you had it all open just out of curiosity?

I think I was around the 45 day mark or so on it. The vehicle was transferred here from another Carmax. They were very helpful with the return of the vehicle because there was obviously not an inspection done on it.

I had always heard a whining noise, but not very loud. I initially explained it away as maybe the FX has been sitting for months and needed to be driven to get some of the "kinks" out. A week later, had time to do further inspection and noticed the belts were very worn and cracked. I took it back to them and they replaced it immediately and apologized saying that should have been seen in their 125 point inspection. When that didn't fix the whine, I took it to Infiniti to look at a trans and diff flush. They said the noise was in the trans and a flush wouldn't help and may make it worse. Took it back to carmax. They kept it for two days and had a local shop come in and that was the diagnosis they gave them. I'm not sure if they opened it up or not-I know my local Infiniti said that they do not do any internal trans work. By now, it was obvious that there was no inspection and that this vehicle may have been mistreated as transmission issues do not seem to be common at all. I figured to cut my losses and when they gave me a very generous offer to buy it back over fixing it-I took it.

ive had the 550i before, pretty quick and very agile.. Hows your gas mileage? compared to the fx

So far, I'm averaging 19-20 which was better than I was getting with the FX, but at the same time, I've been driving it alot in DS and manually shifting it. I wouldn't be surpised to get it up to mid-20's on a consistent highway run.

Nice exchange. I hope the bimmer treats you well. I also hope that Carmax does the right. Thing and fixes the issue before selling to the next guy.

It's not a lot of stuff. A nav dvd and some brand new suspension parts that were for the 2003 FX that I had. I think it was sway bar links and something else. I'll post those tomorrow-I need to get pics of them tonight.
