Small Rust Spots (Is it really rust?)

I have a 2012 FX35 with only 3500 miles on it and I have been noticing small rust spots on the area where the rear windshield meets the paint. I tried washing and scrubbing them off and no luck. I am thinking they are rust because water must pool there after it rains.

Also, I have the same spots on the stainless steel rear bumper protector. I thought stainless steel was not supposed to rust?

Anyone else have this issue and know how to get rid of the spots? Would the dealer do anything since the car is so new? I looked at the warranty book and it looked like they would only cover rust issues if rust had caused a hole in a part of the panels of the car.

Any help would be much appreciated!

I would say those spots are just contaminants that have settled on your finish such as rail dust from shipping. This is a common occurrence. Get yourself a good clay bar and clay the car, and I am sure this will remove them. Then finish with your favorite wax or sealant.

What color do you have, I'm guessing it's white since it will show up very easily.

Thanks GEE, I will try that this week. It's not white but it is a lighter color as opposed to black or another dark color. It's the graphite shadow which I believe was the replacement for the very similar platinum graphite.

Yep, that's rail dust from transport and brake dust from the pads bedding in. Clay bar and some elbow grease will get that off. I had a fair amount behind the front wheels (on the front doors) at about 3,000 miles, too.

yeah, little tiny specks on a new car are from transport, metallic dust from car haulers brakes and rail dust from transport trains etc, but should have all been polished off in dealer prep that I'm sure they charged you several hundred for...

Mine actually had this stuff too back when I first bought it. It was still on the paint. Had to polish it to remove the spots as a clay bar didn't work too well for me. You could try a heavy grade clay bar though. It's nothing but rail dust from when it was shipped.
