Slow speed turning vibration

Hello,

I have an intermittent issue when turning at low speed or from standstill.

When making a tight turn, just after straightening up and applying throttle I hear a short (less than a second) high frequency buzz. A bit like tyre edge tread rubbing( but it isn't). The buzz is not felt through steering wheel. There isnt any crabbing or shaft windup but I think it is drive line related. Sound is a buzz and non metallic.
It does it more frequently after a long run ...checked brake rotors and they were cool. The buzz is not like abs kicking in....its higher frequency.
I'm going to change transfer case fluid (got 2 litres of matic J) ....does anyone have drawings or pictures of fill and drain plugs?

Any ideas / advice on what the issue might be?

Eventually decided to change front diff oil. The level was low as I only got 400 ml out but it took about 700ml to fill. Did this about 3 months back and noise has gone.

Drain plug was reasonably clean so not worried about potential diff damage.

I saw you shared your experience about the low-speed turning vibration issue on your Infiniti qx70 3.0d. I appreciate this because my car is having the same problem as you. And I hope that I can discuss further about this fault.

I have a 2014 Infiniti qx70 3.0d 35k miles in the UK, and it has a similar fault to yours. During low-speed turnings, especially for large angle turnings, sometimes I can hear a very clear noise (like friction noise, it is the kind of noise that tires are rubbing something) and feel a little bit (about 1 second) vibration. This issue appeared about 6 months ago.

But the difference is that my car just broke down last week due to the broken drive belt and crankshaft pulley, therefore the power steering was not working and the steering wheel became extremely heavy. The Nissan garage replaced them for me and then the power steering works normally but the low-speed turning vibration and noise are still there.

I saw you said you have changed the front diff oil and the problem was solved after March 2022. I just want to confirm with you if this problem show again during this year. And I did not find where to buy and change this oil, could you please kindly give me some more advice on this?

I did two oil changes...transfer case first and then a month or so later the front diff.

The noise (a short high frequency buzz) disappeared after the front diff oil was done and it has not reappeared since.
I got the oil from opei online.I think it was morris 80 90 hypoid GL5. I got 2 litres and flushed the diff. From memory it was pretty low but there was absolutely no sign of a leak.
In May this year the belt tensioner collapsed and I thought the big shells had spun..and well known V9x engine problem. I called the RAC and he thought it was the timing chain...any how the guys at westway Nissan in coventry where I get the car serviced diagnosed the tensioner and couple of other noisy rollers so a lot of money later and a month off the road I got back sounding normal.

Got to say I am less than impressed with Nissan reliability..its really a Nissan at heart with a bit of Renault thrown in. I am also pretty unhappy how infiniti and Nissan don't keep reasonable spares stock in Europe. The belt tensioner came from Japan and I was told initially 12 week delivery!
I've got 50k miles on a 2015 plate ...soon up i expect the well known issues to come up that youll see on the nisssan forums...egr, i intercooler etc. If the turbo goes (it should not as i change the oil every 4000 miles) I'll just take it to a scrapyard. This is the most unreliable car I've ever had ...looking on this forum you see issues with cars that used to be the 1970s Friday afternoon QA byproducts.

Thanks a lot for your advice.

I experienced a similar condition with you. I waited about 3 weeks to get my car fixed, they have no stock for the parts in Southampton Nissan which is an authorised Infiniti garage.

I thought Japanese cars are durable but now I found it is a wrong stereotype. I may sell this car in the future and find a new one which has sufficient local garages and part stocks.
